This is a 15 minute video which goes into rather dry
detail on what font serifs ("little feet") are, among many
other things; it's instructional but not horribly exciting.
What this has to do with Linux (it starts off mentioning
Dreamweaver, an Adobe web designing tool which requires
WinXP/WinVista Home Premium on iNtel hardware --
http://www.adobe.com/products/dreamweaver/systemreqs/)
is far from clear. What this has to do with some of the
other groups is even less clear; is someone panicking
because they have serif anxiety? Is there a teacher out
there who needs assistance 24/7 because of serif anxiety?
Does Adobe expect elementary school children to use Dreamweaver?
For another perspective on serifs, one might try
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serif
which actually touches on an interesting if irrelevant controversy:
did the Romans invent them while carving stone? Asian characters
(kanjii) can also have serif and sans-serif forms, though in this
case the serifs are more like classical calligraphic brushstrokes.
Both styles of Hebrew fonts also exist. Arabic might, too.
Followups reset to COLA, for lack of a better answer to
these and other such questions.
