first appointment report- june 11
I visited a GP today for the first time in well over a decade. I only
got a few minutes with the doctor, but there wasn't a lot he could have
done today. They took samples for some very expensive lab work and I
have an appointment on the 25th of June. I will be really interested to
see the results of my lab work. Even if I'm in good health, at least
that rules out the possibility that my body is trying to send me an
urgent message about something. In the meantime I'm supposed to be
taking some meds for stress, but insurance didn't want to pay because
there's no generic available (I hope this makes sense). So I have to
wait a day or two to see if they can get an override or switch to
something cheaper. I don't have any questions at this point, but I am
always open to advice from other posters here, as this is a completely
new direction for me.

I didn't find out what the medicine was but I will call the dr's
office tomorrow morning and ask about it and see if he can get the
override through. I'll make another post when I find out what it is
I'm supposed to be taking.

Just got back from the pharmacy. It is Lexapro 20mg and I plan to start
tomorrow (day off). One more late night work shift stands between me
and starting the Lexapro. I can't wait to get home tonight and go to
sleep.

It's not going to work that fast, bugs. Give it some time (about 3 or 4
weeks). It may make you sleepy, but it may not. Everyone is totally
different when it comes to AD's. Definitely trial by error on them!!
I wish you the best of luck!!

That reminds me of the episode of "Monk" where Mr. Monk took medication
and it started working for him immediately. I know they only have about
40 minutes to tell a story but I never forgave them for taking such
gross scientific liberties for that episode. I'm glad I waited until
today to start my Lexapro because I experience some moderate levels of
nausea (I took it between meals though). I had to lay down and close my
eyes for a while, didn't fall asleep but did feel like rest was coming
much easier than usual (this was about 2-3 hours after taking it).
Shortly after that, I got a call from the dr.'s office. I have been
diagnosed with anemia, which would at least explain why I never feel
like I can get enough sleep. My guess is iron deficiency, but of course
I will be going back very soon for further testing. I'm supposed to
continue the Lexapro, so I hope there's a chance it can help me deal
with the stress of working my job normally while I get my red blood
cell count back to a healthy level. Im going to try tomorrow's dose
after work with a slice of toast.
