| | | High BP withdrawal from Klonopin ??? Possible? Was taking Klonopin up to 4mg per day for about 4-6 yrs, tried to OD
on it about 1-2 weeks ago.
Doc ordered complete stop of Klonopin, not Taper of any kind, it's
been about 10 days without Klonopin. Following symptoms are severe for
me.
1. VERY HIGH Blood Pressure <-Is that even possible?
2. Dizziness<--is that one of them??
3. Nausea
Are those three possible? I am especially troubled by #1 since it
makes no sense to me.
Please help, I am dying.
thanks. |

Yes, all of these things are going to take place. Ask your dr. for
some clonidine to manage your blood pressure. If you overdosed on
Klonopin, it should be stopped. It's hard to justify prescribing the
very substance that someone may kill themselves with. Not your
brightest day. I realize that's not awfully supportive, but I take
care of people who want to live, and lately, am tired of people who
want to die. If you do actually want to die, you know this is not
"normal", and since you seem interested in what makes "sense" and what
doesn't, it seems it would make sense for you to seek some different
help than you are presently receiving, perhaps a change in counselors,
a new living situation (if the present one is untenable) - I don't
know, you have to figure that part out.
In an ideal world, you'd be given one Klonopin tablet every day by a
dispensary, and tapered - but we don't live in an ideal world. Get
your blood pressure under control, and seek the assistance of a
different mental health care practitioner. Obviously being on
Klonopin for several years did not help you - you became suicidally
depressed. It needs to go. I do agree that precipitous stoppage is a
bit harsh, and possibly dangerous. Clonidine, and trileptal might be
of help to you. |

The pdoc didn't offer me clonidine for withdrawal from the klonopin,
or any other drug.
And the reason I tried the suicide was becuase I am psychotic from
being hypermanic from bipolar.
I am now taking three different drugs for it: abilify, seroquel and
haldol.
I've never heard of clonidine before, I'll have to look that one up. |

I may be wrong, but no doctor should make you go cold turkey on the drug Klonopin. I am not too familiar with bipolar disorders and such, so
maybe you would get more responses from a depression group rather than
an anxiety group. I feel for you. Go to the ER or a psychiatric
clinic. You need help medically and psychologically. I wish I had a
magic wand and could make you cured. Your problem is very complicated,
and I feel your pain and hoplessness. My thoughts are with you, and I
KNOW that you will get through this, but you must see a few doctors
about your BP, and your other problems, especially this nonsense about
stopping Klonopin too quickly. This can make anyone feel horible. You
don't deserve to feel this pain. Please get help from another doctor or
go to the ER room.

If a person reacts suicidal to a medication, immediately stopping the
treatment is the right decision. However, leaving the patient without
an alternative is mallpractice, as Philip states. But, with suicidal
thoughts/tendencies, you simply don't have the time to slowly taper
off.. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
