Default How to get off of ambien

Has anyone here been on Ambien for an extended length of time (say a month
or more) and sucessfully quit taking it? I've been on it for ten weeks, and
would very much like to be off of it. Looking for information on what I'm
getting myself into, and how to go about doing it.

Consult w/the doctor that put you on it. S/he will help you taper off. No
matter what, you will have some withdrawal symptoms, but since you've been
on Ambien for a short time, it won't be that difficult. You'll be
"uncomfortable" for a bit, but if you're seriously wanting to get off this
med, you can do it!! I had to taper off 4 mgs. of Xanax in 30 days. I'd
say I had a few days where I felt 'weird', but since a doctor was helping
with the taper, I felt safe.

    I wish you well.

4mg in 30 days? That is pretty severe - did your doctor give you any other
meds to help with the process?

Nope. It wasn't that difficult. The only thing that bothered me was
wanting to clench my jaw. I've been on and off Xanax for many, many years.
After getting off it this last time, I ended up switching doctors and 'am
now back on it. I am much better on it due to being bipolar.

    Hang in there!!

Today is my second day xanax free. I love/hate the stuff - it gives me
peace and quiet, but weakens me, makes it harder to breathe. Ahhh, but it
is so peacefull in my head when I take it.... I had tapered down to .125mg
a day for over a week. I miss it, but I'm better off without it... Getting
off ambien is next, I serously need to get off of it.

Don't know much about Ambien, but if you're not having troubles with Xanax,
then perhaps going off the Ambien will be easy for you too. However!!
Going off BOTH of these meds at the same time should be done with the help
of a doctor. Don't take any chances, Zootal!!

I was never taking that much to start with. At the beginning I was taking
..5mg a day, and for less than a week. Then for a few weeks I took .375 a
day (.125, 3 times a day). Tapered to .25 for a week or so, .125 for about
a week, and then just quit taking it. I never took it long enough to get
physically addicted, and as much as I liked the calming effect, I started a
push to get off of all drugs as soon as I can. Quit the hydrochlorothiazide
already, now the xanax is gone, going to talk to doc about simvastatin and
atenolol and ambien. My goal is to be as pill free as possible.

I didn't know what I was getting myself into with the ambien. That is going
to be the tough one. Going back to doctor next week to work out a plan...
