Default PLEASE HELP!!!!!! NOW!!! Half-Life of Xanax.

Hi. I was diagnosed with Anxiety Disorder with
Chronic Mild Depression and on Prozac in 1995. In 1997 my new
Psychatrist added 50mcg Cytomel when I showed him my TSH was 3.47. I
need to find a new shrink due to insurance changes. The first one I
saw wanted to raise my Prozac level! I told her I used 5-HTP and other
natural Serotonin boosters to enhance that neurochemical pathway. I
was put on Xanax because I was having anxiety attacks because my
Arthritis Doctor wanted to do an MRI on my hip because of
    osteoarthritis from a disease I had as a kid. I am 41 now. I noticed a
significance difference being on Xanax and the new "Doctor-Shrink"
said she would NOT put me on ANY Xanax except in emergences. She said
the half-life of Xanax was 1-2 hours yet the manufacture insert gave
the MEAN half-life as 11.2 hours.

I made the point that the serotonin system is being
addressed in me and is O.K. and the depression is under control and
that it is the GABA system and anxiety that needs to be addressed. I
have been on Prozac for over 10 years and have heard some withdrawl
symptoms from that yet she had no problem keeping me on that drug.
Isn't she overreacting and being overly cautious?I have one of two
choices: either address the GABA and anxiety system or continue to
live the the limited life I have been for most of my adult life living
at home with my mom and stepdad at 41 and not being able to have my
own life because of the anxiety. The Xanax is helping me being less
inhibited and more social. I have Generalized Anxiety Disorder and it
seems to me she refuses to treat that. Looking for opinions from
people who know about the half-life of Xanax and people who have
successfully used them for years with no increasing dosage and
addiction syndrome. I told her Xanax is a Schedule IV substance on the
DEA list of addictive substances. My god Steroids are more addictive
than Xanax according to this list!!
Please I would appreciate ANY help I could get
    Thanks.
    Jd.

    find a different doctor

    - half life 6-12 hours

    - the peak plasma concentration is achieved in 1-2 hours.

    the doctor is very confused

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xanax

i know many people who have taken or take xanax and not only don't increase the
dose but often reduce it and get the same results
initially there can be an adjustment upward but that is because liver eating
benzo beasts are doing their work. the brain may need more until the brain and
liver get their act together. as the body adjusts, the dose adjusts to what the
body expects and reciprocates by not needing or even wanting more

this is for most people, not all

Thanks, I told her I would probably not be seeing her again and didn't
even pay the co-pay!; they didn't even ask! I will be writing her a
letter, if I get a bill, with proof she doesn't know what the hell
she is talking about! If she pursues the bill I will file a complaint
with the state; that should tell her where to stick it! I am fed up
with these idiot doctors who do not listen to their patients and
scientific evidence! She tried to give me some bull**** about stuff
published in the journals that showed the half-life is 1-2 hours. I
could sence she was just making up this crap because I knew more than
she did! I read the Xanax handout that comes from the manufacture and
    that caught her off guard.
Thanks fot the info. I will never see that doc again unless I am
desperate for prozac which is not likely. It REALLY PAYS to do your
homework. I told her I have a minor in chemistry and have taken
Biological Psychology and KNOW benzodiapens are VERY safe. I also took
Psychopharmacology as well so it pays to be educated.
