Sorry to dig up an old post. I just returned after a long time :P
I donno if you remember, John (you were a totally different person
back then), but when I started therapy, years ago, my pdoc changed my
meds and put me on remeron. They made me suicidal and was quickly put
back on
paxil. I did drink the occasional glass of wine (at home)
while on paxil. Sure enough I felt quite tipsy after that 1 glass but
hey! only on special days like newyear's eve ^_^ Over the past 10
years I been off meds (SSRI and
xanax) twice, for 2 years and 1 year.
My personality didn't change. But relapses hit me twice as hard after
those periods of feeling relatively "normal". I'm back on SSRI's
(fluvoxamine this time) and xanax (0.5 mg a day). The first weeks on
SSRI have been pure hell but I stuck through them, and my last PA has
been about 3 weeks ago now. I can't comment on the erection probs tho,
that ain't no issue for me. But the enclosed documentation
(whachamacallit) says it's a very rare side efffect of fluvoxamine,
while the one with paxil lists it as a more common side effect.
It's great if you can function without meds, I had the priviledge to
experience that twice. But the relapses were hard and I'm not sure if
they make it worth while for me. I'm not sure if the brain chemistry
can be permanently fixed, my experience says "no". But I guess it also
depends on the severity and/or how soon treatment was started.
