| | | titrate from xanax Hi guys;
I'm trying to cut down on my intake of Xanax. I have been taking 3
pills a day (0.5mg each). Now I'm cutting the pills in half and take
1/2 a pill 3 times a day, have been doing this for a month, no
horrible withdrawal symptoms, except my mouth burns all the time and
certain thougths get stuck in my mind and I can't get rid of them. I
posted a while back about reading something in the newspaper that I
couldn't get out of my mind (it's getting better and fading away)
Anyways..I'm getting ready to cut down to 2 1/2 a pill a day (one in
the morning-one in the evening) do this for a month and then cut down
to just 1/2 a pill a day and so on. Hope this works for me.
My Dr. always give me a script for 6 months for Xanax and Ambiem
(lucky me) as long as I go see him every six month he doesn't have a
problem prescribing the meds. He's getting about the age I think he
may retired so I'm trying to ease of. I'm getting my reffils and
putting the pills away for a rainy day. Also I'm getting tired of
taking meds..maybe feeling this way would make it easier to quit after
almost 10 years.
Thanks for reading and wish me luck. Have a great week.
PS...A friend told me (trying to be nice I guess) " Bad things always
happen, we just get used to them and go on. Alternative "leave the
planet". |

Your friend is right.
Good luck to you on the slow withdrawal. I admire your courage.
Sending positive wishes your way.

maybe that's a sign of OCD, i dunno xanax does anything for that.
me? i just obsess and bug tha hell outta people with my compusive
behavior, which i've learned to take great pleasure in. i dunno tho,
maybe you should ask Philip or Gary (GFX).... they're tha med experts.

ya may not be able ta get off it altagether. if ya can't, ya can't...
Gary told me, when i was titrating, to get to the lowest dose to
medicate the "underlying disorder." that made sense and worked for
me.
i don't have anything to offer here but my own experience/s, so
anything i say's just about me, and has nothin' to do with what's
right for you.

maybe you should ask for'ah "back-up" shrink" in case he retires or
kicks tha proverbial bucket. i don't recommend sayin' "dude... i
need'ah referral if ya go off'n die", but maybe somethin' more
subtle. i'm not good at subtle, so again, ask sumbody with sum
decomum.

lord, you sound just like me. after 9 years, i wanna have NO
attachment to them pills, and i got SOOOOOOO tired of touchin' my
pocket ta make sure i had my pills with me. now i just take one with
me, it's a lot easier and doesn't make me feel so "OMG" when i touch
my pocket and i don't feel the bottle immediately.
stockpiling's common, but dangazoid, i'd get hooked up with another
doctor of his choice, "just in case"... he ummmm... "retires."
> Thanks for reading and wish me luck. Have a great week.
you too !... and send me all yer rainy day pills immediately.

PS) nothing is permanent, "good" and "bad" are judgments that YOU
determine, opposite ends of a spectrum. possibly, the alternative is
to "find balance" within the spectrum.
leaving the planet DOES make ya weigh less, i hear tell, so maybe i'll
try that.

My Dr is not a shrink, just you regular family Dr, but he knows my
history and where I'm coming from-more like a friend I would say. Now
that I think about it he still has a teenage son at home (the guy is
in his 60s, can you believe that!!) so he may be working for another
few years. I'm going to ask him next time.
Can't send you my pills Tanya..I need to look at them (security
blanket) LOL |

| | | Re: titrate from xanax I'm confused. First you said you take "1/2 a pill three times a day",
which implies you cut your daily dose in half. That would be WAY too
fast, and probably intolerable, so I'm assuming that the second thing
you said, which was that you went from three pills to 2 1/2 and so on
- is actually what you're doing. You can actually make that change
every two weeks, however there is nothing wrong with waiting a month.
Some people who have a really hard time titrating off Xanax taper it
down by 1/4 milligram a month (like you are doing) and they do fine.
It is never completely painless, but can be made fairly decent.
Take a good quality B complex vitamin every day.
Maybe halfway thru the taper, you could snap the Ambien in half (most
people have no trouble with that for more than 2 nights, so pick a
weekend, if you're off work then) and have that be your two-week plan
for that two weeks. Don't change the Xanax during that time frame.
If you're on Ambien CR, get a prescription for the 6.25, when you're
ready to cut that, instead of cutting the 12.5 tabs in half.
If you start to have really difficult withdrawal symptoms (feeling
shaky, confusion, heavy perspiring for no reason) go back up to the
last Xanax amount that you were on, prior to making the last cut. If
that does not work, consider working with your Dr. to transition to Klonopin for the last part of your taper. Whatever the Xanax dose
would be, the Klonopin dose would be half as much, on average for most
people. Klonopin's advantage is that it has a somewhat longer half-
life, so it does not cause quite as bad a withdrawal phenomenon for
many people. |

Somebody has to be entrusted with the dispensing of substances that,
for many, are used for fun.
If someone working in the tower is unable to discern legitimate
patients from people buying a "six-pack with a co-pay", that's the
wrong office to go to.
We just can't put the Xanax next to the aspirin on the drugstore
shelf. Despite all appearances, it just wouldn't work out well.
I think you dislike finding your way THROUGH the tower more than you
dislike the tower itself...

what's it his bidness if anybody uses them substances for fun. it
ain't like we all (includin' him) ain't popped back'ah couplah lortabs
with'ah few cocktails. and how do ya buy a six-pack with'ah co-pay?
i mean once ya pay yer co-pay, ya don't have the co-pay anymore, so
how ya buy tha six-pack with it? the only wrong offices i ever went
to were tha ones that didn't gimme my dang xanax. now i gotta kewl
doctor, so i don't bitch about it so bad anymore. i'm sure yer
thankin' yer lucky stars for THAT one ! (sometimes i wonder if you
ever laid the phone down when i was bitchin' like hell and came back
in an hour and picked it up and said "uh huh, i completely
understand.") i'd be none tha wiser, cuz i could go on'n on without a
period for at least an hour.

what if they spelled it backwards on the label? that could be'ah
method to deter the illegitimate users.

yer right. i have no skills to navigate that maze.
....and despite all my rage, i was still like'ah rat in a cage.
now i gotta doctor that i told i didn't WANT xanax, i wanted ta try
that new bipolar med, (he's treatin' the source and workin' his way
down) and he wrote me 90 pills with'ah REFILL !!!!!!!!! and he wrote
me 180 adderal, which i told him i'd quit taking. he insisted i treat
the ADD on a minimal dosage, and i said "no, i'll eat em all in one
week, i dun been that route." i'll never fill it, it's been at the
pharmacy for 3 weeks, but STILL ! i used ta show my ass ta get those
too.
i think i get better results when i shaddup.

i've always called psych offices 'the ivory tower,' cuz they slung
their holier-than-thou attitudes around and dictated my comfort at
their whim, their subjection and i called the p-docs the 'ivory tower
dwellers.'
i used ta have a whole soliloquy i'd spout off at tha drop of'ah hat,
it was extremely annoying.
