06/07/2008: Investigators of the University of Naples have explored the inability to express emotions (alexithymia) in panic disorder in a paper published in the third 2008 issue of Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics. In patients with panic disorder (PD), the difficulty to identify and manage emotional experience might contribute to the enduring vulnerability to panic attacks. |

anger to myself. When I was dating, I was too nervous to eat and was
filled with anxiety. (however, once sexual intimacy was over, the
anxiety disappeared.) I have a roommate now who is NOT paying his share
of the rent, and I am angry. But I can't go up to him and yell at him.
The landlord has to do the fighting in court. However, when I know
someone quite well, I am not afraid to express myself freely. But if I
see a stranger throwing a piece of garbage in the street or do some
other wrong thing, I can't walk up to him or her and yell about it.
Maybe this is my personality, and has nothing to do with panic or
depression. Who really knows what causes half of our problems?

I understand this one! I won't go out eating with anybody that I don't know
really well. The thought of having a meal with a stranger fills me with
horror.

Why do you feel any need to yell? I am not an angry person and I find that
talking to people, rather than yelling, gets a more positive response.

No need for you to feel anger if it's the landlords problem.

Again, why the need to yell? Could you walk up to that person and politely
point out to them what you feel they are doing wrong? It obviously wouldn't
always get the response that you want. There are always going to be people
out there that just tell you where to go but you could then just walk away
(or pick up the rubbish yourself) knowing that you tried.

I don't see the fact that I don't easily express anger as a problem. I see
it as a bonus to my personality. This is not to say that I never get angry.
There are moments when I do but it's short lived anger. I don't like being
yelled at myself and I will point out to the person yelling at me (if I know
them) that I won't continue the conversation until they speak to me calmly.
If a total stranger yells at me for any reason then I'll just walk away.

I don't recognize myself in this text at all. YMMV?

==========================
Have you heard the expression "nice people finish last?" I have noticed
that people who yell in a public place gets noticed and gets results.
For example, if a supermarket line gets too long and there is only one
cashier, the person who shouts out "HEY, WE HAVEN'T GOT ALL DAY HERE.
TELL THE OTHER CASHIERS TO GET OFF THEIR COFFEE BREAK." Well, the
manager will hear this perrson, and immediately will announce over the
intercom system calling for some more cashiers at the checkout counter.
Personally, I could never do this. And if no one talks up, they will
wait a long time in that store when there is no need for this slowness.
BTW, I have spoken to my roommate in a very calm, kind voice, but did I
get any results? NO! Therefore, I find that people who have a gift to
shout their displeasure usually gets the most results. But sometimes
you have to be careful who you yell at. Some people will fight or even
kill you. I also will say that employers or supervisors who are firm
and have a loud voice and are not timid will get their employee to work
better or faster. Being kind and 'timid like' doesn't work most of the
time in today's world. Humans , I think, react to strong willed
people...and the kind, polite, people like myself get ignored..for the
most part.
