| | | Another puzzle at the moment the dr did some blood work the other day.
He did a Hgb A1c Hemoglobin Aic my result was 5:5 their range is 4.8 - 5.9
Mean Bld Glu Estim 97
So does that mean I am not pre-diabetic like one dr said I am. That is the
way I am reading that.
Also he did a magnesium serum. It was high or that is what the test results
thing says, they have it marked high.
it was 2.7 range is 1.6 - 2.6 so I mean oh my .1 higher than suppose to be.
I didn't get the chance to question him on this part of the lab work.
The appt didn't go well at all.
So just wondering if you all think what i am thinking it says or am I more
brain dead than I think I am.
Oh yeah with the magnesium test, should I stop taking mag. I don't know how
those tests work. Am I getting too much mag because I take 225 a day at
times. Usually about three or four days in a week or two period. It helps my
constipation, and palpatations and cramps and spasms. So that is why I use
it then. I know then it is telling me I am lacking something.
I know you all are not drs or play drs on tv. just wanting opinions as to
what you think. I know I need to ask a dr about this stuff. But with me not
having money, it will have to wait a while.
It cost me too much the other day and I still haven't paid it. I am going to
pay it when i go back in, in two weeks for a bp check.

225 is only 63% of the MDR for magnesium.
That is what I take 7 days a week for leg cramps.

| | | Re: Another puzzle at the moment Our family doctor's nurse called one day after Bob had had a blood test. She
was revved up about Bob having diabetes and he was to go up to the pharmacy
to pick up his monitoring supplies, he was to take his blood sugar readings
twice a day and he had to go to a training session. He did all of the above
and his readings never went over 110...except once when he had waffles and
syrup. The doctor's office never called back again, they never did a
follow-up appointment and he and I decided he does NOT have diabetes.
Pre-diabetes possibly, but no longer. He switched to diet soda and has lost
about 20 pounds.
So, if your glucose doesn't go much above 100, you are not diabetic. I
wouldn't worry too much about it as long as you're eating properly. The best
thing is to call in to your doctor's office and ask them.

| | | Re: Another puzzle at the moment Thanks Joe and DeeTee.
Joe, I will have to look up abuot my mag reading being slighly high and see
if I can still take it. I really do need it. Boy the cramping and spasming I
get are unbelieveable at times. I didn't know some of those areas could even
spasm. ;-)
DeeTee,
I was talking with Denise today and we talked about this too. But she said
since they never did go the blood sugar (oh no now I forgot the name)
pushing??? the one where they give you sugar and then test like 3 hrs or 6
hrs later, they can't really tell if I am or not. So really then that Endo
that said I was prediabetic could very well be wrong. This was years ago she
told me and I believed her. But then I don't think I should, because she
said my adrenals are fine too and look who has adrenal insufficiency.
That is terrible that they never did a follow up appt with Bob. That is not
right. My sugars do go above 100 after I ate something I shouldn't have. But
I have hyperglycemia (I hope that is the right one, the one where your BS
bottom out) so then I have to eat some choc. chips and eat protein to bring
them back up again. It is because of the adrenal issues (that I don't have,
haha,) Sorry I am still bitter about that one.
I will probably ask him when I go back in, in two weeks for them to do the
BP check.
Oh by the way at 1 am my BP was 124/72. Now the day they said my BP was
184/122 my machine said 155/111 so If I add 30 to my top number and 11 to
the bottom number that would put me at 154/83. So that is better. Went to
get meds today and boy for the BP and Cholestrol meds it is $170 so I can't
wait till I can get all these papers sent in to see if I can get them for
free. I can't afford that every month.
Thanks again DeeTee. I am trying to remember that you said no space between
your name but my fingers keep wanting to do what they want. ;-)
How are you doing sweetie?

I'm not a great deal of help on those specific numbers. But.... have they
tested your vitamin D levels? That could be a real contributor to your
cramps and spasms. With you not being able to go outside much due to all
your other problems, I'd think you're a serious candidate for D deficiency.
The other test you're thinking of is the glucose tolerance test. But your
blood sugars SHOULD go above 100, briefly, after you eat something high in
sugar. The key is the body producing an appropriate quantity of insulin to
balance it out. There are a variety of disorders that can affect that,
including (of course!) Addison's. SJ, you should be the poster child for the
need for universal access to health care!
I hope your paperwork for your meds goes through quickly. It was a HUGE help
for Mike and I when we had no coverage. If it doesn't go through before you
need refills, ask your docto's office if they can sample you on those meds.
They may be able to get you through until the other kicks in.
Meanwhile, stop competeing with me on the confusing the doctors front! That
needs to be reserved for those of us blessed with good health insurance.

| | | Re: Another puzzle at the moment No Nann, they have not tested my Vit D levels. Heck he didn't want to check
my mag levels either said the only way that could be done was at the
hospital and then I was given the results from the lab and low and behold
there it was listed.
It is funny you should mention poster child. I just said that to Denise the
other day but it was that I could be the poster child for Graves, since I
just yoyoed into it. I have all the symptoms on the list except 5. One is
Jims faught, not mine, the other is I am not a man, so really only have 3
that are not me. There is a list of about 30-40 and only 3 are not me. ;-0
They dont have samples there, it just opened last month. But I will ask when
I go in for my bp check in two weeks and see if they can bring some over
from one of their other branches if they have them.
I will try Nann, really I will, but can't promise anything about confusing
the drs.
You know what, Nann, I think Denise cut in line in front of me in the return
line. Shoot that line is not really moving. I have been standing there for
years and it hasn't moved at all. I have seen Rosie up there doing wheelies
in her wheelchair. I think she is getting tired of waiting for the return
line to move some too. ;-)

| | | Re: Another puzzle at the moment It's a shame about the doc being so stubborn on labwork. My PCP mentioned
vitamin D levels for fatigue and muscle cramps even before I got around to
mentioning it. It's not a quick fix either - it can be a matter of needing
just a small increase, but needing it for some time before it builds up and
kicks in. (or mega doses if you are really low - I was only a bit low so he
kicked me up from 1000 to 1200 IU/day but said to give it time.)
Ya know, I think those people at the head of the return line are holding all
of us up with their indecisiveness about which ailment to give up. Heck, if
they'd move on and just let me give up a *symptom*, not even an ailment....
ah well. We'll just watch Rosie practicing her fancy wheelies.
Ya know - I bet that

have to look into another dr anyways.
Yeah it could be that with the return line or if some get the bad fog like I
do, it could be after waiting so long in the line which one they want to
give up.
I couldn't believe that I forgot about the Graves stuff till Rosie mentioned
it. I had been in the Hashimotos part for so long I just forgot about the
Graves. ;-)
also like I was telling Donna G, I had gotten so used to the bladder
problems, that I forgot years ago the dr called it irritable bladder.
How can you forget what you have? I don't know but I seem to do that alot
lately.
