Bunion Surgery / Foot Surgery

Any of you had experience with any type of foot surgery?

I have a friend who just had bilateral bunion surgery and now at her 2
week follow up found out that a bone or bones have shifted and now she
has to have another surgery! Ugh! I would be so disappointed to have
to go through all of that again!

It sounds like foot surgery is a bit precarious because the bones can
shift easier?

Anyone with any knowlege about any of this?

do I remember correctly? the young morman family that moved from SLC to
Md due to wife's employment at hearing school. did he not have foot
problems after surgery?

and that is the sad part about this site expiring-so much expertise
gone.

Thanks, Nell! I had totally forgotten about Walt having foot surgery.
I know Walt pops up on FB once in a while, but rarely.

Sure wish he would stop in here!

have pressure sore/bed sore on arse from too much sitting in wheelchair!
treated at hospital wound care center. Dr says recliners are the worst
offenders, we get too comfy and fall asleep for hrs. So must avoid
recliners. And spend much time in fetal position on bed. Thank
goodness for talk on public radio all day. Any ideas on how to read
in bed? and I refuse to have cable installed in br, so there.

Be warned fellow asa sufferers. keep on moving.......

I have heard that pressure sores are incredibly difficult to treat and
heal, too.

I'm sorry you are having to deal with this.

As to reading in bed, is there any way you are able to lay on your
stomach and maybe prop yourself over some cushions or something to read?

I often read in bed, but I have to constantly be changing positions or
my joints start screaming at me. Some times I lay on my stomach, then
switch to my side, etc.

Sure hope they can get things healed up quickly for you.

Do you have any type of cushion or anything you use in the wheelchair to
help?

If she can afford it, it would be a nice time to get an ereader like
the Nook or one of the other ones. Kind of nice to have a 1,000 page
book in a quarter of an inch. Getting books is easy. Barnes & Noble
has almost two million for free. Just put 0.00 in the search window. I
know they have at least two Bibles as well as many classics.

have a waterbed type cushion for chair. medicare does not provide one
except with wheelchair. since I have my own non- govt chair it is my
expense. cost $150.00 not a typo!!!

Rather foolish rule as medicare is paying for my dr and the R.N. who
comes each day to change the dressing----

Oh trust me, I know how expensive a cushion for a chair can be. They
can range any where from $50 up to $800 or more!

I totally agree with you that it doesn't make sense that medicare won't
pay for them for any other reason but wheel chair purposes.

I need one for my scooter and recliner- I get red hot areas that haven't
become open sores, but my rehab doctor is concerned that at some point
they will.

We had to get one for my mom, too, as she has two pressure sores.

Medicare and other insurance companies end up spending far more in cost
of care for the pressure sores then they would to just pay for the
cushions.

We know how insurance companies can be, they don't always do what is
right or what is logical!

Sure hope you can get them healed up fairly quickly!!!

Well, my friend that just had the bilateral (both feet) bunion surgery
has to go back in for more surgery!

She tried to push the limits a little and some a bone or two shifted, so
back to the operating room for another round of surgery!

It's always so hard to stay off your feet and do nothing for so long.
