Crap - just crap

Well it is a week from my holiday - I can tell. The hips have been screaming
this week, knees are looking great - nice and hot and swollen. Hands,
feet - you name it. But I have been prepared for all that.

The latest - a urinary tract infection (started treatment yesterday) and yup
shingles! I feel like I just want to die. The good thing is I caught it
quickly and so I am on 7 days of antiviral. The bad thing is my pain level
is at a 10 out of 10. I was controlling it at an 8 - could handle that.
But this has pushed it out of my control.

So going back to bed with a demerol. If anyone sees the train that hit me
would you get the driver's name.

I think that train passed through here the other night and I'd almost
swear I heard it laughing... And there was no driver.

Hi Kelly,,, I have know two people that have had shingles in my life. I
am so glad you are staying on top of this. The people I knew did not.
Just keep on taking steps in the right direction and hope for the best.

Oh Kelly.. dang train.. it is just making havoc on alot of people. It hit me
this week too. I am glad that you are getting care for shingles. My grandma
had it and it wasn't fun at all. Did they give you that anti viral stuff and
neurontin? If you get worse get to the doc ASAP!

Oh I am so sorry that you got hit with this crap. To give you a bit of
hope....my cousin came down with shingles a few months ago and started
on the antiviral med right away and was cleared up within a few days
with no residual pain or after effects. I pray it will be the same for
you.

Rose - these shingles are big - size of huge cedar logs. Thanks I needed
that humour today!

Hopefully the antiviral will knock this flat quickly. At least it makes the
pain from the RA seem like nothing.

Was so good to hear some good news coming from your part of the woods.
Hopefully your bil will have some good news soon too regarding his
treatment.

I have a rheumy appt on the first day of Spring Break. At least
Penticton is a nice place to visit. I am on my own this time going
though, as that is the day my BIL has his surgery.

help you with the shingles...
True story...which I am not REAL proud of...but one of a LEARNING Mom...My
daughter was in about the 3rd grade when she had shingles...I thought that
it was impetigo...So being raised to Scrub impetigo and put antibiotic
ointment on it...Well I probably scarred my poor daughter emotionally for
the rest of her life...
I cannot tell you the guilt I have felt for that one mistake..
Although I have made plenty as a Mom...that is probably the single most
painful thing I have ever done to my child...
Maybe this story will make your shingles feel better...

right place to be with all you have going on! Thank goodness you caught the
shingles early and got on medicine - I hope it clear quickly and doesn't
settle in for long-term torture. Lay in a lot of good music and/or books on

healing wonders your way.

Cindy, that reminds me of me and my dad. We lived on a farm, and for a
farmer back then, iodine would cure anything. When my shingles broke out
around my waist, Daddy painted them with iodine. Then he had to get up in
the middle of the night to take me to the doctor!

I am sorry you are suffering so much, are you on a lot of dmards? I
wondered since you are getting infections I notice when I was taking 20 mtx
and the 50 enbrel I seem to get a lot more stuff then before, It is hard to
knwo what to do, take the dmards, they make you feel good but then they
knock you down with other stuff.
You are always so encouraging anytime I have written, I hope that you get to
feeling better and wish for you a week free of pain.

I hope you get to feeling better soon. A couple of years ago I had
shingles on my nose. What a pretty site. LOL There were very
painful. I to the Valtrex and it did help them clear up sooner if I
hadn't gotten on top of the situation.

already! time for you to have a break! boy, i'm glad you caught those
shingles quickly, is right! they can be really nasty, when not caught
early. my dad wound up in the hospital for two weeks (maybe ten years ago)
cuz his case wasn't caught and treated soon enough. healing vibes being
sent your way and strong ones, too. i want you to be able to be fiesty

Nope hardly on anything at all - I end up with a serious side effect on most
of them. We are trying mtx again and in 8 months have worked our way up to
7.5 mg safely. Just took my 2nd dose of 7.5 last week. Off it until the
shingles are gone for good. I just finished trying Orencia and so will be
going on Rituxan as soon as the shingle thing is finished. Then I am again
out of drugs if that doesn't work or if I disagree with it. The uti's are
common with the neurological damage and itc combination.

I will get better but I don't know anyone I hate enough to give the shingles
too. I huge welts around my middle and they hurt although I haven't
scratched them (yet.)
