Default Diane...EMG etc

Thread was getting mixed up so will post separately. All my EMG and
nerve conduction studies a couple of years ago came up with was PN.
Neurologist said if it got worse to come back so I did!!! She really
didn't give me much hope of anything helping but did say again to come
back in a year. My gait is off and doesn't seem to be worsening
although I walk into corners a lot. I hope they will come up with
something to help you.

ann, i have the feeling i'll end up with the same lack of treatment
plan. my gait's terrible, mostly because everything in my left ankle
and foot has autofused so nothing bends, plus it hurts to walk. now
with the PN, i also have foot drop and general awkwardness. i know i'm
a fall waiting to happen. keep walking into those corners, tho! at
least a corner will hold you up.

Diane,

Since you now have foot drop, have they suggested an AFO (ankle foot
orthotic) brace to you? I wear one of those since my stroke on my left
foot and it really does help me tremendously with my gait. When I go
without the brace, my gait is a mess.

hi donna,
i wear a brace. (don't know what an afo brace is). i used to wear an
arizona brace, but this one is built into my shoe, with metal bars up
the sides of my calf to a strap at the top and it's amazing. i've
given up on caring how it looks. i love it.

Diane,

I did remember that you were wearing a brace, just wasn't sure if it was
meant to help specifically with the foot drop issue. An AFO brace is
usually made of plastic in a kind of L shape to cover the whole bottom
of your foot to prevent the foot from dropping when you are walking, and
has a little padding on the side that goes under your foot, has a strap
or two at the top part of the brace that usually comes up to right below
your knee. I wear a piece of stockinette under my brace so it isn't
rubbing directly against the skin, but it is amazingly helpful in
helping with gait issues due to foot drop specifically. Since I had my
stroke, if I don't wear the brace, my foot will actually flip over on
top of itself or I have to literally drag it without picking it up, or I
will fall flat on my face.

Diane,
My PN is no where near as bad as yours and I don't have any fusion nor
footdrop. I did mention to the doc about one problem and she didn't
seem concerned. It's walking without shoes on especially in the middle
of the night or first thing in the morning. I walk flat footed and
can't seem to lift either foot up easily. I have no pain either, only
pins & needles and numbness. I'll be anxious to hear how your test
results turn out.

donna, my brace sounds similar. it has a steel plate that's built into
the sole of the shoe. i was starting to "almost fall" a lot before i
got it. i'm glad you're doing so well with yours.

no! no fall! no. no fall. <making a cross sign with my two index fingers
to ward it off> soooo that's where i made my mistake! i didn't stay close
enough to corners! i think i'm going to start imitating monk, only by
staying close to corners from now on. ;-)

((((((((((((diane)))))))))))) having it hurt to walk is sooo not pleasant.
how'd you do inside the mri, hon? here's hoping the results of all the
testing comes up with something that is fixable for you.

yeah, kate, just corners and bubble wrap for you from now on! i
mentioned elsewhere that the tube was barely a tube at all. it wasn't
an open mri, but it was short and with some xanax and an eyemask, i
did fine. thanks for asking.

i don't know when i'll hear the results, tho. and thursday is my
eyelid surgery! just one thing after another.

Bob and I often say our only social life is with the doctors and nurses.

Our week - Monday, Bob colonoscopy. Tuesday, shhhhhh!. Wednesday, Bob
dentist. Thursday, DeeTee infusion. Friday, DeeTee oncologist.
Next week it's the opthalmologist and more bloodwork. The following week
it's his turn at the opthalmologist. Hang in there, Honey.

Thinking of you, Sweetie, and hoping all comes about for you.

((((((((((diane))))))))) take it one minute at a time, sweetie, and
breathe-in, breathe-out.

but, the eyelid surgery something you asked for. so, like it really
shouldn't count as a medically imposed thingy, more like a present to
yourself. y'think? on the other hand, it does sound like your plate, as
well as your calendar, is full.

yaaaay for xanax, eyemasks and short, barely tubular mri's! i'm sure glad
that went well for you.

egads! don't get me wrong; i love her sweet hugs. but with the way my
shasti loves popping bubble wrap even more than she loves me, i'd have my
little velcro kitty popping away at me all day long! she's definitely on a
self-ordained mission to rid the world of evil plastic bubbles. shasti even
opened a box of see's chocolates, two weeks ago, just to get at its white
bubble wrap sheet (to remove its potential to contaminate, i presume). i
prefer your corners solution.<g>

Corners are out to get me! My balance isn't good, either, from the neuromas
in both feet. I keep hitting corners at a glance, so there goes some more
black spots on my arm, yuck. I've decided I'll have to hang on to corners
as I come to them (door jambs, too). I have a curtain on the inside of my
bedroom door (my bedroom used to be the carport) and the lower holder really
got me the other day. I guess I'll just have to have one day every six
months or so for my housecleaner to clean all the corners. The magic
thing-a-ma-bob from Mr Clean works quite well.
