Default Doctors

I am presently looking for a new doctor (GP) since the one I had been using
for 7 years retired. I really liked him and two of his employees were real
good friends of our family. I started out with one of his partners (before
he retired), but he is now a resident advisor for the big hospital here and
only sees patients 4 mornings a week. Takes at least 3 months to get an
appointment and you have to go through so much rigamarole then that it just
isn't worth it. Will see my cardiologist Monday and hope he will know some
one to recommend. It is so hard to lose a good doctor!

I feel for you and know how it is. I hope you can find one just as good or
better than the one you had.

Gwen, I hope you find a great doctor. It's very hard around here to get
a PCP since a few years ago when the two major HMO's here said it was
mandatory to choose a doctor. Folks who hadn't been to a doctor in
years were forced to find one and the patient lists swelled so much that
many offices were, and still are, refusing to accept new patients.

It is also hard when you move into a new neighborhood. I have been
fortunate to find great specialists, but I'm still looking for a primary
doctor to go to if I have a sore throat or something like that. I have
a great cardiiologist, endocrinologist, psychologist and bariatrician,
but have not as yet found a good primary. But I'll keep looking and
asking around ) The best thing to do is ask other doctors as they
know who is good.

Could one or both of those two employees offer referrals?

Perhaps they have an "in" with doctors and would put in a good word for you.

.... If "R" is REVERSE, how come "D" is FORWARD?

Ann, a gerentologist has an office not too far from me, but he isn't taking
new patients. At my age, I thought that would have been good for me.

I would ask to be put on a waiting list if it were me.

The reality is he is going to be losing current patients faster than a
regular GP would.

I am really hoping that my cardiologist will have someone in mind when I see
him Monday. He suggested my present lung doctor, and I could not be more
pleased with him.

((((((((gwen)))))))i find the task of locating a new doctor, for myself,
tedious and discouraging. but, i've been thinking about this dilemma you
find yourself in, with respect to finding a new gp. maybe asking your
current doctors which one of them also has a specialty in internal medicine
might be the way to go. (most gp's/pcp's i've had were also internists.)
maybe you can double up with just one doctor handling two aspects of your
care? just a thought.

Kate, my cardiologist was an internist before he became a cardiologist, but
he won't prescribe for anything except the heart now. One reason is that he
is on call for any serious emergency heart surgery in two hospitals in town.
Guess that's what you get for being about the best in town. However, he is
the one who found my lung problem and sent me to a pulmonary specialist.
