| | | i have a sore foot Since this past Thursday, I've been fighting what I believe is a very
sore metatarsal as part of by big toe bone on my right foot. The cause
is I think because I wore new footwear as of last Monday. I've done
several things to try fixing it; including: icing it with a pack,
warming it with a pack, wrapping it with an ace bandage, and taking
four different types of ibuprofen. Even almost 48 hours later, nothing
has really changed and it's still very sore. Any thoughts on how to fix
this up? thanks |

Yes, see a doctor who will determine the cause and hopefully prescribe
a cure.
We are NOT doctors and we cannot diagnose or offer any treatment.

As a qualified MD I know there's only one solution to your problem,
amputation. Chainsaw, fast moving train, rusty knife, all will do, just
"lop it off" as we say in the medical profession.

I blamed footwear for some of the pain I had when I started getting
stress fractures in my metatarsals (age 30). If it doesn't get better,
see a doctor.

I usually follow the "seven day rule" for seeing a doctor,
due to particularly crappy US health insurance which makes
a visit cost at least $100, sometimes $500 if the doctor
actually does something.
I observe that most minor injuries heal themselves in a
week, often if you throw in a extra rest day or two.
However, if the pain or other systems worsen,
then see a doctor. |

i'd see a podiatrist first, partly to see what kind of recommendations s/he
makes about the right/proper kind of footwear specifically for your feet.
and since a podiatrist is a foot specialist, s/he'd know what was really
going on with your right foot. don't let it go on too long without seeking
help. no more than a week. foot pain can really limit you.

two days is not really that long. Then you try mixing treatment methods
(cold and hot) and are surprised it isn't better?
If it is so painful that some over the counter medication doesn't
relieve it then get to a doctor. It is extremely difficult to diagnose
the problem in a news group.
