Default New knee coming

Well, it's going to be a TKR. The doctor tells me the problem in my hip is
Bursitis caused by the offcenter walking with the bad knee. OK.

Any how, I don't the date yet, because the nurse hasn't called me and after
spending 3-1/2 hours down there for a 15 minute doctor visit, I didn't want
to wait while she set up a couple of patients on surgery dates. She can get
the necessary information on the phone, so hope we can connect between her
patients and my doctor appointments this week!

I'm scared, kids. My mother had a TKR at the age of 84, so I know pretty
much what happens, but when it's you going through it, it's different. I
will post an Update when I get the date.

I received definite orders from my son that I had to schedule after the 18th
of October as that is the first birthday of the beautiful granddaughter of
mine and I am expected to be at the birthday party (mostly relatives!)

Navy, I can understand that you're scared. I get scared too when I hear
surgery of any kind. The good news is that your hip is basically okay
and doesn't need replacement. Actually a TKR today is pretty
straightforward and I know you will do very well. Some knee people will
be along soon and will walk you through the surgery I'm sure. We will
all be here for support.

Thanks so much Squirrely. It's so neat that you would think of me in the
midst of your problems. I love you.

I will post as soon as I find out. I'm lucky in one thing. My mom has gone
through it, so I won't be totally unaware.

Great idea. I'll be they were very pleased. On top of the party, my son
and his wife will be closing on the 30th on their new house, as well as the
old one. Sounds like a choreographer may be needed. LOL

I don't think I am wonderful but if you say so ok. ;-)

Costo I thought was doing better till I tried to wash up dishes tonight. Jim
is just too busy with work and everything else right now I thought I would
at least be able to do that but no luck. Just a glass hurt me to lift it so
couldn't do it.

as long as I sit here in recliner with my computer, book, paperwork, and
don't move too much I feel fine. But boy move, cough, sneeze, laugh, burp,
or anything that can pull in that area and I know I am not fine.
it is better than it was the day before but still not great.

For costo, heat has always been the thing for me. Also i remember
people saying that hugging a body pillow seemed to put pressure in all
the right places to provide some relief. I have never had a body
pillow but hugging a regular pillow or propping myself up with one has
helped. Sleeping beside a purring cat is good too.Quigley only sleeps
at my feet but i have had other cats that have been helpful for this
purpose. The purring and warmth were soothing somehow.

Now tkrs are pretty routine. You have your mom handy to ask for her
input since she has recently gone through this. Do the best to be
prepared in advance by maintaining range of motion as much as you can
and muscle tone. The stronger you are before surgery, the easier it
will be to recover after. Maintain a positive outlook. Eat healthily.
Take vitamins, and eat foods that are rich in iron. Visit friends.
Laugh. Enjoy life, and look forward to a good outcome from your
surgery.
One of the risks with any surgery is infection, so take care of
yourself. Avoid people with colds, etc.

In the olden days when i had my surgeries (in the early 80s) we were
required to wash the area well with an antibacterial soap. I am not
sure if surgeons are recommending this or not, but it could not hurt.
I used phisohex i believe, but that has been banned. There are
specific antibacterial products, that you can get in a pharmacy.

thanks Rose,

also something that I do for the costo or to avoid it is when coughing or
sneeze, back up against a wall and also have a pillow to hug. Don't pull
things as much. chiro told me that one, i am always throwing out back from
stuff like that and aggitating the costo.

That sounds like a good plan to stabiize the area.

((((((((((((((((Loujean))))))))))))) If you've been able to get through the
pain of living with a destroyed knee, you will manage the pain of rehab. To
borrow a phrase, "keep your eyes on the prize". And it's best to go ahead
and do it before things get even worse. An onorous combo of reasons had my
mom putting it off for too long and her rehab was significantly longer and
slower as a result.

and for now focus on the birtday of that beautiful granddaughter!

(((((((((((((sj)))))))))))))) vrtual hugs only, ones that don't hurt! I've
been there and I surely don't envy you right now. Prayers that it calms down
quickly.

You said they are taking you off prednisone. Is your dose being reduced
right now? If so, that might be more reason to be extra careful with
anything that can flare up the costo.

Well, I got the date today - Wednesday 12 November 2008, and the surgery,
right now, is scheduled for 7:30 (first on the list, unless the doctor puts
somebody in more need ahead of me.) Lots of prep to do after I get the
letter from the doctor's nurse assistant. Thanks for all the support.
