The XYL hopes she won't encounter any QRM when
she CQ's on 2M so she can obtain a QSL.

.... Ham on rye -- a drunk radio operator.

2 meter band, to start? Actually, not a whole lot different than here!
Going digital (ECHOlink) when I get a box that connects this 'puter to the
radio and antenna Norm has....then it's just typing just like any ol' chat
room.<g> You 'member those, Mel...right??

If a license and frequency bands are involved then I guess
yeah....(??!!??) Chief's got a major radio license and mine's minor and
more common.

I think it'll have more impact on TMJ than THR, o'Kate. :-))

N6IM, licensed since 1959, but no usable gear since computers arrived. I
keep thinking I'll get back to it some day, some day that has more than
24 hours in it. :-)

i have a neighbor across the street, a brilliant and cool guy (used to be a
chemist, retired for some 25-ish years now), who was really into ham radio
15-ish years ago, when our acreage and adjacent acreage properties, his too,
were unincorporated. (his hobby before that was building a 45ft mini yacht
of his own design, with his son, which he finished.) he was so into ham
radio he even erected a huge (maybe 50') antenna tower on his property to
catch the waves from all over the world. it was the reason we signed up for
cable tv, cuz we could no longer watch our local channels, without feeling
really creepy about eavesdropping on his conversations while we watched tv.

i'm still on cable tv, but his interests diverted to building a helicopter
from scratch with his daughter (she's my age). yeppers, they got it to fly.
until she got her pilot's license, to really take it up, they used to just
hover a few feet above the ground with it. bored with that, and now in his
late 80s, he's now having fun making a bundle in the stock market, a much
"quieter" adventure.:-) you should see the apartment he built over the
garage he built for building the "boat". it looks like a small stock market
exchange.<smile> he's great, just an amazing ol' guy-- a rennaisance man,
to my way of thinking. i swear he can and does do anything and everything
for which he focuses his mind. this is one man i would love to read about,
as a character in a book. a very interesting and complex guy.

That call sign came some time around the late '80s or early '90s shortly
after I got my Extra Class license. Over the years I started as WV6ENG,
the old novice class, and most of the time was WA6ENG. Worked mostly CW
(that's why I asked for a good CW call) and DX, but used to ragchew
commuter mobile on 40 meters and later two meters in the LA area with a
gang that included some Hughes Aircraft engineers as well as some plain
civilians like me.

Actually I built nearly all of my equipment (mostly from Heathkits), my
antenna mast, and the directional antenna--all gone now except one old
tube-type rig (Heathkit) in the closet. At least I've still got my
memories. :-)

Have fun with your new rig! And 73 to any other hams out there.

heehee - my first thought was hams as in "ham it up"! That is me all too
often, but I've not gone the ham radion route...... (heck with this costo,
talking hurts too much anyway)

No longer, I'm afraid. I had a General class license, volunteered with my
Dad to cover an annual triathlon for several years, and the Old Dominion 100
mile race (24 hours in the Blue Ridge Mountains - runners and horseback),
did a search and rescue after a major flood in West Virginia. Then my Dad
became too ill, died in 1993. Never picked up a radio again. My license
expired in 1995, but I'd sold all my equipment long before then. At the
time, there were three women in our club - one was in her 80's, and the
other two of us served as Pres and Secretary for a year (I think mostly
because no one else wanted it.) It was an enjoyable time, made lots of
friends - mostly elderly gentlemen who treated me like their daughter.

Sharon (call sign was N4MCS)

I'll check ECHOlink out. Got my license back in the 60's (Novice & General).
Off to college then let them lapse until the early 80's. Got my Novice &
General AGAIN -- N3DEC. When I got my Advanced I kept my General callsign
because there was no real advantage in getting a new one (Advanced is 2 x 2)
and I really liked how my callsign sounded -- November Three Delta Echo
Charlie.

Like I said I'll check it out and maybe talk to you down the line.

KE3IU here. Advanced class. There will be no further Advanced class licenses
issued and I don't plan to upgrade so I can maintain my uniqueness. Come on

The "eavesdropping" was because your TV needed a filter installed, not
because of his tower.
We've done that before for neighbors who complained.

My wife hopes she won't encounter any man-made interference when she calls
for contacts on the 2 meter
ham band so she can obtain a conversation with another ham.
