Subject: Fw: Thought You Might Enjoy This Battle Hymn of the Republic -
Speakers Up!
If you missed hearing the US Army Band and Chorus welcome Pope Benedict XVI
at the White House Rose Garden ceremony on 15 April, get a load of these
high school kids. One of the fathers recorded it, added some graphic
enhancements to the recording, and posted it on the web. The song, of
course, is the 'Battle Hymn Of The Republic.' It will send shivers up your
spine. http://www.greatdanepromilitary.com/...Hymn/index.htm |

arrangement many times. In fact, I was still able to sing it with these
choirs. Thank you!!

singing the descant way back when. It was thrilling to sing along with it
and realize I did remember the words.
Question. Did anyone else notice that the choir sang
As he died to make us holy, let us *live* to make men free.
The printed words had "die" there. I always thought that living to make men
free was a lot harder than dying.

We sang 'live' back in the fifties, so its been an alternative for at least
a very long time.

Navy, i agree with your interpretation! I've seen & sung the words both ways
through the years. It says a lot both ways about how important a reasonable
level of freedom is to mankind.
I couldn't listen to this due to being on dial-up, but I remember playing the
Battle Hymn for some football game (MUCH smaller event) and the arrangement
had a *wonderful*, soaring clarinet part. I've never heard that arrangement
since and I loved playing it. it must be a piece composers love to arrange!
