Default OTP: our new baby

the new car, that is. It's been 19 years since we bought a brand new car
(and that one lasted 18.5 years!), so we're happy about this one! We plan to
run this one into the ground, too, and will buy only used vehicles for any
replacement 2nd cars we get.

Nice looking little suv/minivan. So who gets to drive the new vehicle
and who gets to drive the other van?

Question: Is the front passenger seat a bucket seat? I can't seem to find
any cars that don't have that. My bucket is bigger than their bucket. I've
been looking for a smallish car with a normal passenger seat. May have to
order one - which, of course, adds to the price.

BTW - nice pic of Mike and of Puddin'

Nann, don't try to hide in your new baby; it just won't work! It looks very
nice. Is it a very comfortable ride? Hope it will last as long as the last
new one did!

Congratulations and best of luck with it. I hope it lasts at least as
long as the last one.
BTW, Puddin Cat is absolutely beautiful. I had no idea she was so
fluffy.

Its precious!

I know it makes no sense to buy a new car since they depreciate so
fast. But I think you have to with a car like this. They just don't
come back on the market lightly used.

Enjoy. You have certainly waited long enough.

It's acutally smaller than it looks, while having a lot of cargo room.
Somehow that square hatchback look appears bigger than it is.

It will be our primary car all around, but as Mike drives much more than I,
it will be more his for now. It's rated at 35 mpg/highway, which means the
way we drive it'll probably be more like 38-40. Even with our recent slowing
down we've not gotten better than 28 in the Caravan - though it is much
easier for camping trips!

The Caravan will continue to be our roomier option as well as the one I can
drive on gimpy hand days, as the Fit is a manual transmission.

Yep, but they are roomier and less elevated on the sides than many. Mike's
bucket isn't exactly small either and he finds the seat comfortable. the
doors are large too and open nice and wide so Mike finds it much easier to
get into than our old Corolla was. It does ride more liek a small car on
rough roads, but has a nice ride on better roads.

I really want to be seen! I had 2 overly close encounters with white
vehicles that didn't have their lights on in blowing snow last winter! That
really upped our desire for visibility! No black though, we plan to be
moving this car south on day.

Especially in northern Michigan! We had to drive at least 100 miles to buy
one new! (went with a different dealer though who was 120 miles another
direction - but a direction we go more often.)

And we both love to drive stick, even now, with my rebellious hands. Mike
wanted to keep one car sick and you pretty much have to buy new in the States
now to get it. only 4% of new cars in the US have stick now.

Mike insisted on putting the title in my name only because he's 63 now. I'm
still wanting him to outlive the car though...............

maybe that's why Puddin' Cat seems rather unimpressed so far. I woke up from
my nap on the couch today because Puddin' was sleeping on my neck & shoulder
in a way that was causing great pain.

he's a very hairy guy, complicated by him being so big! On the bright side,
after having to kick vacuuming up to weekly from every weeks thanks to
Puddin' Cat, my hands couldn't take my 1981 cannister vac any longer. As
soon as I started talking seriously about buying a new one, Mike took over
that chore from me! If I'd known that would work, I would have tried it much
sooner! lol

I love the looks of the car - the lady that does my nails says hers is great
on the highway and gets terrific mileage. (Hers isn't as nice a colour
though! Nice to be able to colour co-ordinate with your cat. Heathcliffe
says hi - he is almost the same colour).

Enjoy - hopefully you can get 18.5 years out of this too.

My problem with driving stick isn't my hands, sore as they get. I broke my
left little toe years ago, but it still rebels at any pressure put on there.
I tried driving a stick rental and I had to take it back for an automatic.
After two days, my foot was screaming pain. Seems like it wouldn't bother
after so many years, but. The story of how I broke it is hilarious. My two
boys, oldest and youngest (about 4-5 at the time), and I ran out to close
the car windows because it was starting to rain. As we were running back
into the house, there was a mud puddle in front of us. Now, both boys and
me were barefoot, so getting wet wasn't a problem. The oldest boy yelled
out to the youngest to not step in the puddle! Well, the youngest stopped
short - only time he ever listened to anybody - and my left foot rammed into
the back of his, right between the little toe and the next one. OUCH! I
heard it snap. Ever since then, that foot just won't take any pressure like
putting your foot on a clutch. I really can't see the point of FIVE gears
on a car you are only going to drive around town. Can anybody who's
experienced tell me why they need five gears?

Anyhow, beautiful car, husband, and cat. By the way, why did Mike want to
keep one car "sick"? LOL
