Default OTP: Please check in everyone!

Would be nice to have everyone check in and let us know if you are ok,
as the weather has been so destructive in so many areas.

We have had a ton of rain, high winds, some flooding and a few tornados
as well.
Right now we still have flood warnings and high wind adviserys until
monday morning around 8:00 - 9:00 or so.

I live on the top floor of a high rise building and am sitting here
looking out on my balcony at a big chunk of something that came down
from our roof! Will have the maintenance guys deal with it tomorrow if
they have time.

We had a tornado go through the town (plymouth) east of us which is
about 20 minutes from here. Lots of damage and destruction from that
tornado and it popped up so suddenly that they didn't even have time to
sound the tornado warnings.

Still, we're so much luckier then those in the areas of Texas that were
hit so hard by Ike!

I pray all of you are warm, dry, and safe!!!

The weather in Bellingham, WA is fantastic Blue skies, lovely
breezes, and today I rode my bicycle for the first time since I got sick
in 2005 :-)) It's true that you never forget how to do it! I was so
happy! I just rode around the complex (it's built in the round) three
times, then my legs were tired. So I'll see if I can do a little more
tomorrow.

But how amazing is it that 'your legs were tired'

Bet a two years ago you didn't even dream you could do that and catch
your breath. Your legs you can make stronger.

Way to go!

It is cooling down with the nights getting into the seventies and the
days not getting much over the hundred mark. Me, I've got swollen feet,
stiff hands, a few painful joints to move, a mild fever, and so on so
I'm doing OK. I hope to geet back on the Arthritis meds nest week and
then we will see what we see.

It's about 80 here with sunshine. Last week we got 2-3/4 inches in about
1-1/2 hours! Not much since other than a few sprinkles. Homecoming at
church yesterday and stood in line for probably 30 minutes. Thank goodness
I had the walker with the seat in it. I was ok until just before the line
got to the kitchen, then I had to sit down. Reclast coming up this week on
Thursday. I'll post any side effects or feelings that I get. Mom and I are
trying to do our best to keep our driving to a minimum. We decided that the
one prescription we were going to have refilled today, could wait until next
week. That means the delivery fellow doesn't have to come to our house
tomorrow. We only have two trips this week, one to the grocery store and
one to the Infusion Center for the Reclast. Of course, Toastmasters is on
Saturday. All trips within 3 to 5 miles.

I've also been praying for all the people in Texas that were/are affected by
Ike. I've looked at some of the pictures of the damage and it is so
depressing. One had a beautiful yacht sitting in the middle of the freeway!
So there is some humor. I think some of those "If this weather happened"
stories on the Weather Channel came a bit close to the truth! God bless all
who are in that area and I hope you all came through all right.

Dallas checking in, here. Piece of cake for us. None of the dire warnings
developed, and it wasn't anything more than just a rainy weekend--and
anemic, spitting rain at that! Actually, I heard from another family member
in Indiana this morning, and it sounds as though they had it much worse than
we did in North Dallas in terms of rainfall and winds. Go figure. . . .

My relatives in Houston have reported in--they are in one of the areas that
had power restored very quickly (NW area of Houston). How lucky can you
get!! They had a generator up and running initially, but didn't have to
rely on that for very long. I was pretty surprised when an email showed up
on my inbox mere hours after Ike passed through Houston. I hadn't expected
to hear from them directly for a much longer time, actually. They are okay.
House is okay. Some minor tree limb and foliage damage. They didn't say
anything about their water supply, but I'm sure they are well stocked with a
bottled supply.

Just stunned, though, to see all the debris and devastation along the
coastline. Mountains of lumber and building materials from flattened homes
strewn everywhere. A lot of work ahead for a lot of people. Those folks
are going to continue to need our prayers for some time to come.

we're far enough north that our rain wasn't that heavy, but between fronts
and remnants of Ike, it rained for 3 days, almost solid! A real bummer of
weather - even Puddin' has been dragging in it. Right now it's in the upper
40s outside with a brisk wind (just took mail out, so I know). Predicted to
be in the 30s tonight so I have to bring in my herb plants. It's a bit early
to be THIS chilly! At least it's cutting into the ragweed in the air.

and of course the turbulent weather has had me flaring and dragging. Right
now I'm torn between wanting to feel better and wanting my RD to see a flare
a Wednesday's appt!

That's great that you could do that, Carole! I so miss riding my bike, but
our area is lousy for bike riding. You're either on the shoulder of a very
busy state highway, on the edge of busy county roads with NO shoulder, or on
gravel roads. I guess we were spoiled by having bike routes or side roads
for riding elsewhere. The larger town 25 miles east of us has a great
bike/walking route around the town and I envy them so....... (of course, now
that our bikes have sat on flat tires for almost 4 years, we'll have to buy
new tires & probably get bike tune-ups before we ride uch again!)

You mean they didn't bump you to the front of the line - or were you too busy
talking to & catching up with folks to move? I hope Reclast is effective for
you with NO side effects!

These gas prices are nuts right now. I have 2 doctor's appts. this week -
RTs of 60 & 50 miles. Just our luck that both are on days when Mike has
places to go also so I can't take the higher mileage car. Oh well. At least
the minivan will be easier to load up with the stuff I need to buy for the
food pantry when I go in for my physical. (with the economy right now, our
food pantry has seen a 500% increase in usage in the past 14 months!)

I've got my fingers crossed for our cousins on Galveston island. Their house
is elevated, but I don't know that it was enough to protect things from the
storm surge.

Ohio checking in. WOW to the wind and not much but sprinkle hard hitting
rains. Columbus Ohio is still with out power in some areas. We were on our
way home to NW Ohio and the wind hit. We had to dodge falling branches,
trees and what not going through it to get home. Once home in NW Ohio it was
ok lot of wind guts with only a few trees down and sporadic power outages.
All I can say Is God bless the people who are down there in Tx and Louisiana
helping or where ever you guys and gals are, with rescuing people and
providing care. I can't imagine going through a hurricane winds and rain.
Bad enough this area is tornado prone and too many at that to say.

Hang in there everyone and it is a blessed cool today at 65 degrees with
sunshine all over.

things health wise are so so but hey seems that is life. A

Oh and by the way, good old OSU and OLD BLUE lost last weekend so I am
looking forward to watching the BIG old game in NOV

9:30 am and 58 degrees on a federal way bright and clear monday morning.

my son and i spent friday night and much of saturday (he spent the night
here) following the progession of ike on as many news and weather stations
as we could. we both have friends in the affected areas and have been
concerned for them. everyone's checked in and are ok. but what horrendous
devastation was left in ike's wake. my heart goes out to all who were
affected.

Southern Missouri got over 10 in. of rain in 2.5 days and there's been
tornado warnings and flash flood warnings off and on for the past few days.
We had very strong winds Sat. night and a dead tree blew over in my front
yard, but missed my house. Guess I'll be cutting up and dragging off tree
parts. Thank goodness the tree was only about 12 ft. tall- but it was a
very pretty curly leaved willow that got hit by a late frost last spring and
couldn't take the cold and died. I miss my little tree. ;-)

Northern California here, Weather has been FANTASTIC.. getting only in
to the low to mid 70s during the day with a really good breeze. I spent
yesterday taking my dog shyanne to the dog wash and getting her fixed
up. She's got a hot spot on her hind end and is in some discomfort at
the moment. I feel for her. She's currently got a e-collar on her which
makes us laugh and her feel worse, so we try not to laugh. I also washed
my car which I haven't done in years.. so I've been feeling pretty good.
My muscles are really sore today though.

I never could have done this two years ago. Back then I couldn't climb
stairs either. Now I live on the 3rd floor (which is the top floor) and
it's SO much quieter! And I'm riding my bicycle without getting out of
breath Life is good!

I had to pump my tires up as they were flat as pancakes But I had the
bike tuned up when I moved out here, and everything seems to be working
well. I even figured out how to change gears yesterday! In the past I
only rode the bike a little and always just left it in the gear it was in.

It's another lovely day in WA, so I'm going to go riding again Maybe
someday I'll have legs like Raquel Welch, LOL!!

They didn't bump us up, though one woman let us in in front of her. It
wasn't too bad, both our walkers have seats in them - love it. A lot of the

Java Jean, Leslie, Janers,

So so glad to hear you made it through the rough weather and are all
safe and doing well. I also heard from Gary Z. and he is doing ok
too. He's bummed that the golf courses are of under water, but he is
safe and sound.

Sorry to hear about your tree Leslie, but just glad it didn't hit your
house and that otherwise you are doing ok.

It's always amazing to me that the remnants of hurricanes can have such
far reaching and devastating effects on those of us so far away from
where they hit land. There was some really nasty damage to so many
states this past weekend.

I'm just happy that so far everyone is doing ok. I sure hope Harv and
his family fared ok through all of this!!!

Glad to see people checking in and letting us know they are ok.

Lurker from Massachusetts checking in here. We've had some days of
heavy rain, but now weather is cooler and lovely.

Thoughts and prayers for all of those along the Gulf Coast dealing
with the aftermath of Ike.

Got an email from Gwen. Thankfully she is safe and ok, but a little
under the weather health wise. I'm sure she could use some prayers and
good vibes!

Isn't it horrible how many states that Ike affected? It reminds me that not
just the coast where a hurricane or tropical storm comes ashore should be
concerned, it should be any area in its path.

Oklahoma is doing fine...Actually Ike seems to have cleaned all the rain out
of our area.
We had been having lots of rain from TS Lowell...and when Ike came through,
it seemed to wrap it all up and take it away...lol
The cool front, cooled us down and we have enjoyed temps in the 70s for
highs and 50s for lows...nice...
Praying for all those that Ike affected...The mayor of Galveston sounded so
so tired and defeated when she told people not to come there...there was
nothing left...
So sad...

This is Southwest Houston checking in. We were very fortunate. With
our lights out, we were given a rent-free apartment with air! So
other than the 10+ mile drive in between each day for chores and such,
we've been glad! Our house was undamaged. We did receive cosmetic
damage on our van. Mostly limbs down. Our stores are mostly open.
It still takes a long time to do anything. There are long lines
everywhere. Even though we have power back on, all of the signal
lights are not working. Grocery stores are still not fully stocked.
But who's complaining? Not me!

Take care,

Vickie B.
who leaves on Friday to take her youngest to school in Oregon!

Nann, please don't say that I'm strong. This is so hard!

I even had an epidural for my back planned and it was cancelled by the
storm and no time to reschedule before the trip.

Harv where are you? I thought that you were closer than I to the
storm.

Donna,
Has everybody checked in? Are we missing any? If we have some missing,
I'll send prayers that they are ok.
