| | | OTP - Prayers Please My 24 year old cousin Jonathan was involved in a motorcycle accident on
Thursday. He has a severly damaged leg and a great deal of facial damage.
He was wearing a helmet so brain function is fine. He will make it,
however, the doctors have not given a prognosis on how much funtion he will
have of his leg. He's just getting started in life and has faced several
major adversities so far. I would appreciate thought/prayers/vibes for
healing and strength.
Thanks.

Prayers on their way for Jonathan. I'm sure the doctors will do all they
can. These days I'm amazed at what they can do.

| | | Re: OTP - Jonathan Update This is the latest from my aunt about Jonathan.
snip
We want to thank all of you for your thoughts & prayers for Jonathan. He had
the second surgery on his leg today. The doctors were very pleased at how
well it went. There is no sign of infection (a miracle considering the
injury). He will have the first of the muscle grafting surgeries on Friday
(if all goes well this week). His biggest hurdle is that he doesn't want to
eat. We are having a hard time getting anything down other than water. He
has to get some nutrition. He can have anything soft that he can take from a
cup.
Jonathan was not going too fast around the entrance ramp. The state police
determined that the accident was not due to excessive speed, but to debris
or sand on the road. The rear wheel caught it, & he did not have a chance.
He is not being charged with reckless driving or anything else.
The face surgery did not have to be as extensive as first thought(God is
Good!). The palate went back & everything just fit in place. He doesn't have
to have his mouth wired shut. The nose & eye socket will be fine--no other
surgery needed.
snip
Thanks for all your continued concern.

Thanks for the update! That is such good news, except for the no desire to
eat. Could they insert a feeding tube? Sometimes if a person hasn't eaten
for a few days, they'll do that. It's good that he's at least taking in
water and probably won't get dehydrated.
Prayers continuing on their way.

| | | Re: OTP - Jonathan Update It sounds like good news thus far. Obviously there are many trials ahead,
but it could be so very much worse at this stage. I will continue to keep
Jonathan in my prayers. Thank goodness he had on a helmet.
(this reminds me of our first big fight - Mike let his health insurance lapse
(long story, involving job changes, etc.). We REALLY got into it about him
riding his motorcycle without health insurance. Yes, he was a careful rider,
but on a motorcycle you are just so vulnerable to someone else's stupid
actions or debris left on a road. He finally bought some private health
insurance and I let him ride again - but not until I blew up at him a couple
of times for riding it! Hey, I worked in a hospital then - I knew too much!)
prayers for Jonathan.

| | | Re: OTP - Second Update on Jonathan Here's the latest (4/5/07) on my cousin Jonathan. Many, many thanks to all
of you who continue to think of him.
Mary Margaret
<snip>
Jonathan had an angiogram today in preparation for his surgery on Wednesday.
That will be the first muscle grafting surgery. A muscle from either his
stomach or back will be taken to cover his shin. A vein from his left leg
will be taken to graft onto the muscle & good vein on his right. It will be
a 6 to 10 hour procedure. Once that has "taken" the skin grafts will begin.
He is doing fine, otherwise.
Tomorrow they will do another debriding/washing.
Art's Mom & Dad came today to give us a break. We came home & slept for
several hours. Now we're trying to get some house work, etc., done.
We want everyone to know how much we appreciate all the prayers, cards,
gifts, calls,& just the support. Please continue!!!

your prayers/thoughts/good vibes/etc.

Jonathan had just come out of surgery and was still groggy. The doctor who
talked to Beth said everything went well and Jonathan did just fine. The
broken leg has been repaired with a rod, plates and screws. They took a
muscle from his back and a vein from the left leg and grafted them onto the
right lower leg. Then they grafted skin from the left leg to cover the right
leg. He will be in a cast and will have to be in a wheelchair. He's not to
put any weight on the leg for several months. |
