WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. -- A bodybuilding champion who is a wheelchair user
was robbed of $30 by another man in a wheelchair but didn't give up
without a fight, grabbing hold of the robber's chair and being dragged
for several blocks.
44-year-old Jeffrey Green was arraigned Monday on charges of robbery,
theft and receiving stolen property in connection with the incident on
November 2.
Police said Green was turned down for a withdrawal at a PNC Bank
branch, then watched as tellers placed $30 into a pouch on a wheelchair
owned by Jesse McKinney, winner of the 2005 National Physique
Committee's lightweight wheelchair bodybuilding competition.
Outside the bank Green grabbed the money and McKinney grabbed the other
chair, holding on for several blocks. Police said when the other chair
broke free, McKinney returned to the bank to ask for help.
McKinney is afflicted with cerebral palsy from birth and uses a
keyboard to communicate. He is the author of the book "A Mind on
Wheels."
