check, though. I'm sure today was very emotional and difficult. They were
planning to contact a lawyer with photos taken by them and the pediatrician
of the bruising. They'll also have the statement from the girl who tried to
help and her parents. They will all be instigating legal proceedings against
the boys, the school, the playground attendants who were nowhere to be
found, etc.
Anyway, as soon as I hear more, I'll do an update. Thanks for your concern.
I was rather surprised there wasn't more reaction to this. I was
horrified.

already had since I had written so many replies in my head.
Glad to hear the family is taking steps but bet that is so hard to do. Sure
hope the parents of the kids involved are made to understand this -
unfortunately my experience is that so often the parents have an attitude
that communicates down. That little girl can be proud of herself.
Hope everyone is feeling better from the crud. Good to hear such success
from Rachel's side of things.
Take care and please update! I lit a candle last night too. Felt like in
my own way I was doing something.

Donna, could we add a little boy named Aubrey to the prayer list? He has
epilepsy and was beaten by 3 other kids during a seizure on Friday. He was
making a repetitive motion, which irritated the boys, who then told him to
stop. Of course, he didn't even know what was happening, so as he lay on the
ground, they kicked him repeatedly from his shoulders to his thighs.
A little girl who tried to make them stop got punched in the face. I wish I
knew where she lives so I could thank her. Aubrey is the child of an online
friend in the EFA community. The beating caused an 8 minute tonic clonic
(grand mal) seizure, and Aubrey now has to be on sedatives and undergo
psychological counselling to understand why those kids hate him for having
epilepsy.

At least the sun is shining today so can do a bit more. ;-)
I think something needs to be done with children like that, that can't
except another childs illness. I know the parents probably treat illness
like that and that is where they get it from.
I feel so sorry for Aubrey and how this will affect his outlook on life and
illnesses. He was made to think there is something wrong with him when he is
ill.

| | | OTP Update on Aubrey...was..Re: Kelly C. Aubrey's mom updated today. From her post:
"Anyways, Aubrey went to school on Tuesday and came home with a discipline
note from his teacher (the very one who was NOT watching him on the
playgrond that day) which was signed by the vice principal. It stated that
Aubrey was being reprimanded for the incident that occurred on 2/9/2007
because it was reported by other students that he was picking up ant filled
clumps of dirt and dropping them even after other students had asked him to
stop. There was a place for me to sign at the bottom, but instead I wrote "I
refuse to acknowledge this blatant abuse of my son as being something that
is justified by any stretch of the imagination. All members involved have
already agreed that Aubrey was having a partial seizure when this incident
took place and was not in control of his own actions. I demand to know why
the school is punishing a disabled child for the very disability it's been
aware of for the past four years."
I kept the original, returned a copy. I have found out a few other things
while investigating that have my blood majorly boiling right now.
1. The VP failed to notify the Principal the day this occurred. The
principal found out about it when I told her on Monday. The principal was at
the campus that day and was not notified even after the police were
contacted.
2. The teacher did not tell the nurse that Aubrey had been attacked on the
playground. She only told her that he had a seizure on the playground and
was acting odd. That is why the nurse waited so long, it's part of our
protocol to give him up to an hour to rest to see if he's ok after he seizes
at school.
3. Aubrey had been sent to the nurse's office three times that day prior to
recess because he was having auras that were scaring him. He was allowed to
rest and when he felt things had past, he returned to class. I was not made
aware of this or I would have picked him up. Once is ok, twice is pushing
it, but three times in less than two hours warrants closer observation, it's
in his 504/IEP.
4. Only one of the kids is openly admitting to kicking Aubrey, so the school
is now doing nothing to the other two eventhough the witness has said many
times that all three were kicking him.
Also on Tuesday I got a note sent home from Aubrey's PE teachers claiming
that Aubrey was "running around in circles with a jump rope and refused to
stop for over two minutes. he refused to answer us when we were talking to
him, he was being defiant. He asked to go the nurse when he stopped saying
he was dizzy and felt like throwing up. We did not send him because he has
to stop making excuses for this behavior. The rest of the class he refused
to cooperate and sat against the wall with his head down. He has now lost
his jump rope privledges for the remainder of the year, which will affect
his final grade for this course. He put other students at risk of being hurt
with this juvenile behavior. Please remind Aubrey about the rules and how to
follow them."
Can we see yet why I am livid? Can we all here clearly say big whopper of a
partial seizure? Hmmmm, compulsive behavior, check, non-responsive, check,
completely shut down afterwards, check....sheesh can it get any easier to
recognize?
We have an ARD scheduled for the 23rd, little does the school know, but I
will be going there with an advocacy attorney. I have had enough of this bs,
four years too much."
I can't believe what this family is going through. Continued prayers are
appreciated.

Is there a school board or a commissioner of education that the family

just really sad when we have to threaten to enforce them to get the care our

I would say I can't believe they are doing this. But I do know it happens
from my experiences with my boys being learning disabled and the wrong
people being put into schools to work with them.
This is just down right dirty. I wish I were there to help the mom fight
these people. They just plain disqust me with this kind of attitude.
Time for mom to get on the boxing gloves and not take them off again until
he gets out of school completely. I know I had to do it.
I wonder how they would feel if the newspapers there got ahold of this story
and published it. It might teach them something.

It was good to see this part at the end of what Aubrey's mom wrote. Any
school system that is so completely clueless and so poorly supervised needs
major straightening out. (that'ss the best way I can think to put it - in
reality my brain is stammering around at being faced with evidence of a
school system in a first world country being so totally ignorant in this day
and age.)
No one should have to go through what this family is dealing with right now.

Kelly,
Thanks for the update on little Aubrey. How very sad it is that a
school in this day and age could be so neglectful and oblivious to a
childs special needs. Just heartbreaking!!!
Continued prayers for Aubrey and his family as well as for the little
girl who tried to help.
Prayers also for the teachers, school itself, the kids who did the
beating, etc that they might open their eyes, their hearts, and their
minds and realize how wrong they have been and how devestating they have
been to this little boy and his family!!!
May none of them ever find themselves in this type of predictament!!!
