Hi Donna,
Was just going to post a note. Shingles pain is still there and we are
upping my
demerol to 4 a day. The doctor says we are now on pain control
mode (as if we haven't been on anything else before this!). Can't start the
rituxan infusions until the shingles pain has resolved itself a bit but I
did go back on 7.5 mg of mtx as of this week.
Of course nothing is easy. I have been feeling crappy (no sleep and lots of
pain sort of does that). Yesterday felt really lousy and at 7:00 at night
started peeing blood. Yup and a fever of 100.4. So called the nurses
hotline at 10:00 when was still flowing red and they said it would be okay
to go into the doctor's at 8:00 this morning unless the fever got a bit
higher. We went through the symptoms and of course no high pain as in a
bladder infection and taking so many other things etc. etc. that was hard to
tell what it was. The pain from the shingles is in the same area as a
kidney stone would be and just as painful. So they tell me - get this -
drink lots of water overnight (think litres not glasses she says - like 4 or
5 litres overnight) and get lots of sleep. So sleep and drink litres of
water. Had a good laugh over that. Anyhow stopped bleeding at 1;00 in the
morning or so and hit the doctor's today. Urine tests and I am going back
on Monday. He gave me some guidelines as to when to go to ER but figures it
could be kidney stones or maybe a bladder infection that hasn't reached the
pain level. Or..... Basically he said he felt bad but doesn't know what
else to do with my body right now anyhow. He is so great but really I am
feeling like my body is giving out and my sense of humour is going. So
after labs and doctor's appointments I phoned my son and took him out for a
great lunch. We had high calorie lunches (halibut and chips for me) and
wait for this - a decadant mile high apple pie with home made ice cream to
split. we laughed and I cried a bit which I never do on his shoulder. He
gave me a hug and encouraged me to keep going that I would make it and he
was there for me.
So yup - another week another pill. Is anything ever easy. I am laughing
again and ready to go on but boy it is time for a break! I did have a good
weekend last weekend in Seattle although it was tough and took most of the
week to recuperate (even though really didn't do anything but sit in another
chair and sleep in another bed but lots of hugs from Kyle my nephew) and
next weekend a group of quilting friends and I are going to Vancouver for
the weekend. Another friend is driving my van so I can painkiller if I need
to and not worry about driving. Good friends and laughs and a change of
scenery to get me through another month.
My mom and sister are going to pack up the house for us when the time comes.
Pat is taking care of finding us a rental and I refuse to do that. I found
all the other ones in our marriage. The good news is our new house plans
are approved. Wide doors, no steps on the main floor or into or out of the
house or garage. Life is sweet!
Thanks for asking Donna - are you sad you did? Yup a drama and I am not
really a drama queen. How are you doing??
Kelly
