Default prayers would be much appreciated

I hate to bring something this mundane to this group but i am just two
weeks away from being homeless and i need prayers that I find a
house. I live in an area where even rental prices are going up. A
studio here is going for 1500.00 and a 2 bedroom apartment for
2000.00. I am finding just horrifying crap for this much money. I am
also competing with the students who are all looking for housing. You
would think that my housing karma would be good as I have opened my
house always to people who have needed it, but alas, I think this
karma thing is not quite that linear.

I think after my little five month stint of being homeless in 2006,
this is by biggest fear. This time it is worse because of the air
quality from the fires makes even camping in my van impossible and I
really feel like I have to be centered to be able to continue doing
support work for our first responders.

So I would love prayers for finding an affordable home. Barring that,
any of you who live someplace affordable that isn't burning, talk me
into moving <g>! And since I am in an asking mode, a few prayers that
these fires get under control and for our wonderful fire fighters
would also be appreciated.

Well, I don't need to be asked regarding prayers for fire control and
for firefighters.

Our biggest smoke producer may be contained by August 31. Note, that
doesn't mean out. Just that it is confined to a specific area.

Housing around here isn't as high as the rest of the state. But I
don't think you'd be interested. We will be in smoke until it rains.

Lots of prayers on the way for the housing situation. I can only
imagine that the usual nightmare rental market in your area is a
thousand times worse than usual right now.

I've been praying for you right along M. and will continue. There is an
affordable place for you I'm sure. It just hasn't made itself clear to
you yet.

If you need to travel across country for a place to stay, you've always got one
at my house. It's a tiny apartment that I share with two cats, but for you,
girl, my door is open.

I'm pulling for you, M. You don't deserve this. That apartment karma is just
trying to catch up with you, I'm sure.

Not mundane at all, M. This is very important and certainly needs to be a
big part of our prayers from now until you find just the right place that
you can afford. Have been praying about the fires and for all the
firefighters. Another group left from Alabama yesterday.

not mundane at all M, and i will be praying.

I just wish you could get over in this area. Yeah we have the smoke but not
like you do right now and it is much cheaper to live, you would just have to
put up with the heat though.

Beautiful and green here in our valley. Skies are clear, and housing is a
lot cheaper than down there.

Would sure love to have you close by. We could make jam with my Mom, and
pickle some green beans, fresh from her garden.

Love and good wishes for you and yours, always.

I heard on the news this morning that real progress was made on containing
the fires this past weekend. Is that true, or were they stating things in an
overly optimistic way?

Housing is very affordable here and we have a spare room until you find your
own place. ;-) But if you don't keep your door tightly closed, you may find
a curious cat checking you out. And you don't shovel snow until late
November - usually - or after early April - usually. heehee

But your good karma will pay off and a place for you to live WILL appear.
It's just that karma doesn't tell time in the same way we humans do. It WILL
work out - and you hae our prayers to make sure it is so!

Come up to Washington. The sun is shining, the air is clean and the
rents are affordable. You can get a two bedroom apartment up here for
under $800 (cable TV included And you get the best scenery you've
ever seen!

Hi Nann,
I think thing are a little better as the marine layer has come back.
just tonight though, we have a new fire just a few miles from me-
probably human set. It is just so strange to see such dry air and
fires so intense. I worked the oakland hills fire years ago and that
was almost incomprehensible but this is just so much worse.

And hey Nann,
thanks for the offer but I don't do winter <g>

Gwen,
dp upi know where they are headed? I have met firefighters from as
far away as New Zealand. IIt is psycologically very important for
those crews from out of state to be here-makes us all feel a little
less lost.

Jo,
which fire is the closest to you? I had people come down from Chico
last weekend to stay just to get away from the smoke. Remnd me again

er - can I come visit? That talk of green beans fresh fromthe garden &/or
pickled did me in. I have a rep in my family for liking my veggies raw and
relatively fresh. That's rough in rural Michigan!

We were going to pick raspberries this morning, but the predicted lovely
weather gave way to drizzles instead and folks who know told us your berries
get moldy very fast if you pick in the rain. Maybe Wednesday or Thursday.

we were socked in from the north stuff and then got some of yours but right
now the delta breeze has taken alot of it out of here. it will be back
though from what I hear it is just a matter of when.

I pray you get a place before your time is up. I feel for you. We are close
to it too if something doesn't change soon. so I can kind of understand how
you feel.

I'd love for you to visit!

Mom has a big garden every year, but grows mainly tomatoes, beans, peas, and
squash.

Yesterday Rach and I made a box cheesecake, but I made a compote out of
fresh blueberries from my neighbor's yard.

My Mom has always been in Oregon. It's my Dad that lives down in Stockton.

Just holler, and I'll send as many pics as you'd like, whenever you want
them.

Me? Because my uncle was once posted as the pastor of a church in
Paradise. Back in the fifties when I was an impressionable child.

He wrote a letter to my grandmother in which he said it truly was the
'land of milk and honey', a biblical reference to the promised land.

Over the years many family members joined him, usually settling either
in Loma Linda or St Helena. He ended up in St Helena. With a home
right by a large vineyard that ran up to the foothills of the
mountains. When the Air Force gave us a choice of last assignment
here or Florida, I based it on his letter.

The Butte County lightening complex is about thirty miles north as the
smoke flies. The Yuba River complex roughly the same distance north
east, and the American River complex just a valley south of that.

We watched the Yuba River Complex start, though we didn't know it at
the time. The thunder clouds were amazing. We happened to be up
there on our way home from Reno with it started.

I've warned the family, one of these Smokey days I'm throwing the dog
in the back of the car and heading for the coast. Anyone who happens
to be home at the time is welcome to come with me.

Today doesn't look too bad, you can't stare directly at the sun.

You should. This is a great place to live, and no state income tax ))
Not to mention that we have nice people here too! And we don't get a lot
of snow (if any). It does rain in the winter, but as my friend David
says "You don't have to shovel rain!" :-)))) I wouldn't live anywhere
else. The temperatures are great all year round. Right now it's nice and
warm during the day and at night, you can still pull the blanket on if
you want to

Jo,
until the 30th, I still have a bed and breakfast unit and I quit
taking reservations so it will be completely vacant from the 18th
until then.

So head on over and you have a place to stay. This is not an air kiss
offer.

Sweetheart, we have a couch that opens into a queen sized bed, a guest room,
blow-up twin mattress, blow-up queen mattress, four recliners, and two
sleeping bags. Come over to Ohio for awhile. Not kidding!

i can think of few things less mundane than shelter. I hope you can
find something soon, M, but i love carole's idea of moving to
bellingham. having just visited there, i was ready to pack my things
and go. it's got to be one of the prettiest areas on earth.

that said, if you don't mind trading fire for drought, north carolina
is beautiful!

No disrespect to North Carolina, but if you are having a drought, the
fires won't be far behind. It is a beautiful state.

Well Johnie is an asset (definitely Arizona though-he lives in Oracle
right outside of Tuscon) but it is more than that....I love open
spaces and spectacular beauty. I love living in a place where I own
the night sky-oh I forgot-the coyotes and i own the night sky! I love
walking out my door in the morning and knowing that the land I will
soon be seeing is not subtle. It just insists in a way know only to
toddlers and red rock mountains that I look at IT. I love the fact
that the desert smells of sage and rain and that every single cycle is
in my face-sunset, sunrise, lunar waxing and waining, solstices and
equinoxes. I never for one minute forget the Mother and Father-the
earth and the sky. I love paying tribute to the earth-there is such a
mutual respect that comes when your land can take your life during the
summer months if you do not pay attention and I always pay
attention....I love watching the lightening come streaking across the
sky for miles and miles and then watching the clouds open up and just
pour...I love that in two hours it will be sunny again....mostly I
love night, something central coast Californians know nothing about.
It is cold for us at night-the rare night when it is warm is just
stunning....I love counting shooting stars....I love the drama that
can only come in the desert. I love that I not only write poetry in
the desert but I almost speak poetry. I love that the
