Default Public Service Announcement!

OK, everyone, I'm just posting this to remind EVERYONE ..........

Please always LOCK your doors even when you are home!!!

My neighbor across the hall was just robbed the other night, while she
was _in_ her apartment!!! * Her door was unlocked, because she was
home.

It is downright scary how bold these robbers are anymore. Going into
peoples places while they are home and in broad daylight!!!

My poor neighbor screamed for help, and unfortuantely none of us heard
her. I feel so so bad. It will be a long time before she will be able to
feel safe in her own apartment again. * I feel especially bad, as I am
the closest, but because of these double ear infections that I have had
for about 21 days now (have done 2 ten day courses of antibiotics) and
now one ruptured ear drum, I can't hear much of anything. * I wish I
would have heard her scream so that I could have come to her assistance.

In any case, PLEASE, PLEASE, always LOCK your doors even when you are
home. You just can't trust to be safe anymore, no matter where you live
and no matter how safe you think your neigborhood is!!!

Amen to that!

And when you are out driving, lock the car door.

It's so unfortunate we can't let down our guard even in our own homes.
Even when I'm expecting someone, I lock my doors.

Thanks for posting the warning.

Amen indeed.

Most people around here don't keep their doors locked. Ours is always
locked because we enter through our garage (I don't even have a
housekey on my keyring), but our garage door is always down. If someone
can get into our garage and into our house they will not so kindly be
met by our 80 pound chow-chow and his labrador sidekick.

I can't keep doors to my house, car, etc unlocked. I grew up in Los
Angeles and I don't care how small a town this is or how safe of a
neighborhood it is, I damn well know better!

And per Carole, your car door. And I may get flamed for this but if you
live where it is allowed (which is most everywhere in the USA), keep a
gun handy and learn how to use it. Many police/sheriff's groups offer
lessons in firearm safety and use to the public. Call and ask.
Anyone who will try to rob your house/car/whatever may very well be
inclined to inflict bodily harm on the occupant or their loved ones...
and this can happen even with the doors locked with all the crazies we
seem to have running around now.

Where we live, few people lock doors that much. I mean, do YOU worry about
deer breaking in? We have more of them than people. But we continue to lock
our doors much of the time. Can't break the habit and aren't trying to. But
if I'm expecting a package, I'll leave it unlocked - around here, they'll
just open the door and put it inside as long as a signature isn't required.
no need to go answer the doorbell.

Do the doors in your complex open inwards? They should, as that puts the
hinges inside. Assuming they do, there are those bars that can be wedged
between the door and the floor that prevent them being opened. One of those
might help your neighbor feel safer AND would make it easy to tell at a
glance whether or not the door is barred.

This is good to remember for everyone. Especially for those of us that know
we couldn't fight our way out of a paper sack.

Donna,

don't feel bad. I know it hurts you that you couldn't help your neighbor.
But what if you did hear her and went over there and then you got attacked
too. Maybe that is why you were not meant to hear it. You never know.

Did they hurt her? I know it is devastating to be robbed alone. But if they
attacked her that is more to the issue. I feel for her and you also. But
please don't blame yourself for not being there for her.

You take care sweetie. We all know if you could have you would been there to
help.
