| | | OTP: Prayers please!
Hi Gang,
If you could, please pray for my parents, most especially my mom right
now.
Mom spent most of the day yesterday in the ER and was diagnosed with
pneumonia which really flares up her emphysema too. They really wanted
to admit her because she was having such a time of it breathing, but she
refused to be admitted because she didn't want to leave my dad alone (he
has alzheimers). So, she is at home, but having a rough go of it and
worrying way to much that she won't be well by next weekend when our
whole family will travel up to where they are for my nephews graduation
from high school.
My brother that lives up there near them is so busy right now getting
ready for the graduation and the party and arrival of families from both
sides, that he doesn't have a whole lot of time to spend with my parents
like he normally would. The rest of us are 300 miles away.
So, would appreciate your prayers that my mom can just lay low a bit and
take care of herself so that she can get to feeling better, and that my
dad will just behave for now!
Thanks so much, I truly appreciate it!!!
Hugs,

DeeTee,
My parents neighbors are my sister-in-laws parents and they aren't in
good health either. Many of the other homes around them are summer
homes, so the people who own those aren't up there yet for the summer.
I suspect my brother will have his oldest, who just came home from
college, run over there to check on them and get groceries and such,
while my brother and sister-in-law continue with the plans for the
graduation party for their middle son and all the guests that will be
arriving next weekend.
I thought about going up and staying at my parents to help with meals
and laundry and such, but I just know with my immune system, that if I
went up there to help, I would end up sick and in the hospital myself.
Pneumonia is one of those things I pick up very very easily! Dratted
immune system!!!

I will add your parents to my prayer list tonight. You stay home and
pray for them too because going up there and getting sick yourself is
definitely not the way to go.

Just make sure that she is being treated adequately. I would hate this
to become really serious. Since Sylvia's condition seemed to start
woth pneumonia, it does make me more concerned for your mom. Tell her
if she seems to be getting the least bit worse to go to the hospital.
Try to see if a neighbour can check in with your mom as well.

pneumonia. I had it once years ago, and it was a rough couple of weeks.

Yeah, Gwen, dad doesn't do crowds well at all any more. He usually
ends up finding a corner somewhere off in another room and just sits
there by himself and we try to filter in one at a time to chat a little
with him. It's difficult to see, as he used to be quite the social guy!
In so many ways, he just isn't the person he used to be and the person
we grew up to know! It's such a god awful disease to watch a loved one
go through! Thankfully at this point, he still knows who each of us is
most of the time.

bless her. ((((((((((((((((((donnag's mom and family)))))))))))) it's
difficult enough (and that's an understatement) being a caregiver when you
are healthy (i remember when i first came down with double pneumonia the
week before butch passed away). your parents are definitely in my prayers.
i'm thinking, after reading a lot of the responses and your replies to them,
donna, that maybe a few calls to her and his doctors to get her some help
with your father might be in order. well, not just in order, but advisable,
considering her own fragile condition.
if there's no assistance forthcoming from the doctors, then i'd try that
particular county's senior services or the local alzheimer's org. for
assistance. even if it's just respite care it would go a long way towards
helping your mom. but i'm thinking more in terms of a person who comes in
each day to do meals and light housekeeping/laundry. (dang it! last week i
threw away my city/county/state/federal catalogs on senior services for our
area that i used for mom and dad--got it from one of our local senior
centers, but libraries have these magazine-like catalogs, too and so might
the local alzheimer assoc. chapter. i could have been more helpful if i at
least had the names of some of these agencies handy for you. i'm sorry i
threw them away, now.)
and you are absolutely correct, donnag. as much as i know you would
lovingly want to help your parents by being there, your presence might wind
up being a case of them having to help you. not at all what you want for
them or yourself. (((((((((((((((((((donnag)))))))))))))))))---because i
know how hard it is to have to wisely say no to what your heart wants to do.
