Hi Rose,
I am 61 but move like I am 82! I worked in a Nursing Home in Medical
Records befor I had to quit. One morning at age 45 I started to get out
of bed and I couldn't. I called out to my husband that I could not
move. I thought did I break a hip in my sleep! After getting up with
his help I was able to move around. The next day I went to the doctor
and he suggested some blood work. After two weeks the doctor said it
was either Lupus or RA and order another test. This comfirmed RA. I was
referred to a Rheumatoligist. I started out with Plaquanil and
Prednisone.. This did not help so I was put on Methetrexate which
helped for a while.
I had to quit work and this drove me crazy but it was becoming more
difficult to type and sitting all day didn't help much either.
I guess the most frustrating thing about RA is you never can plan
anything because you never know how you are going to feel day by day.
Another frustrating thing is NO ONE not even family understands. They
think just because you are up and about there isn't anything wrong!!
After years of different medications I changed Rheumatoligist. He put me
on Remicaid infusions. I lost vision, everything was a blurr and broke
out in a horrible rash that at first my medical doctor thought I had
shingles.
After trips to Duke hospital for my eyes they determined it was possibly
the Remicaid. And it was!!!!! The only treatment that gave me such
great relief and freedom was causing the rash and the vision problems.
I just cried.
I have two sons and three beautiful granddaughters.
I get so depressed not being able to do even housework without paying
for it the next day. It is so nice to meet someone who truly
understands what life is like with RA.
Thanks for listening to my rambling. I will close for now and hope that
your life is filled with many days of NO PAIN.
Your new friend,
Lana
