Seeking New Fibromyalgia Meds

Seeking New Fibromyalgia Meds
Due to some interesting circumstances (see below), my hubby and I
switched to his companies insurance. However, lyrica and cymbalta (and
basically all tier-3 medications) cost an arm and a leg!! What is there
for fibromyalgia? I know I've heard Neurontin works for some. I'll also
be looking to switch something for the Cymbalta. Medco's website
recommends Effexor, but that's not one I'm familiar with.
As for the interesting circumstances (because we all know gimps lives
are not boring!). I quit my job at Best Buy for a sit-down customer
service job in a call center. I thought it would be perfect... until
the second day of training I spent every twenty minutes running to the
bathroom. No, I'm not pregnant. I was running to the bathroom for both
reasons, really bad pain in my right side, and bad indigestion. My
primary doctor ruled out appedicitis, but put me on Cipro in case it
was any other infection. That didn't clear it up or make it subside
within 3 days, so they did an abdominal ultrasound, thinking it might
be my gallbladder. Nope, that came out clear. Saw a GI doc, he
suspected either a stomach bacterial infector, or a problem in my
intestinal tract (I do have IBS), and said he was going to treat it
symptomatically since he didn't want to go probing around if he didn't
have to. Well, the prilosec, microbid antibiotic, and anti-spasmotic
seem to have done the trick. However, I was not in working shape for a
good week and the company dropped me out of training since I was so
sick and would not have, in their opinion, been able to catch up. Their
loss.
I had two interviews with Nationwide Insurance (who is also offering
more pay than the Other Company) and the last lady I interviewed with
said she is recommending me for one of ten positions available. I
should hear something in the next week-ish. Any prayers for solid
health and this job to go through are appreciated!
So, anyone have any feedback on alternative medications for fibro?

Re: Seeking New Fibromyalgia Meds
I found Lyrica and gabapentin (neurontin) worked the same for me. Wasn't
worth the price difference in my opinion especially since I was not covered
for lyrica. cymbalta is a SSRNI and effexor is a SRNI the only difference
being that the extra S means selective apparently. I can't see a lot of
difference. They are both used off label for fibromyalgia and people I have
talked to have had good luck with both. Due to the price it would be worth
trying to me. I am using cymbalta for neuropathic pain. Unfortunately it
is not covered but it works well for me.
I will be thinking of you Ashley. Hopefully they have figured out the
problems with the stomach and it has subsided a little. Good luck on the
new job - please keep us in the loop.
What does you doctor think of the changes??
