    Default shoes for fixed ankle?

    Hi,

I have in last year surgicaly fixed both ankles and now I need at
least 3 new pairs of shoes since ol ones are not for use because
ankles are fixed in specific angle.

So, I am having custom made my shoes for:

    - house slippers
    - leisure walking (something like sneakers)
    - shoes for business clothing
    - winter/rain shoes

All of them have to have heel in special angle and since I have thumbs
that go under my 2nd or even 3rd finger these parts of the shoes also
    have to be specially shaped.

So I need many pictures and ideas for all of 4 shoe categories/types
but to look nice with heel I am young (34) and really tired of
walking in ugly ortopedic shoes all my life Now I have the chance
to actually come with a picture or draw myself something that
shoemaker will develop for me. But where to see actual finished models
for fixed ankles to get ideas or sample photos?

If anyone has ideas or know some web catalogues of those kind of
shoes, please post them to me, I would reallyyyyy appreciate it.

Best regards from Croatia and sorry for not-perfect english

    Hi Vesna,
Do you mean you have big toes that curl under the second and third small
toes on your feet? If you go to Google.com and type in "custom made
womens shoes" you will get many ideas for different types of shoes. Do
you have shoemakers in Croatia who only make special shoes? If so, they
would be able to guide you in choosing styles for you.

    yes, curled toes.
Your search keywords dont help me much because they shoe shoes for
healthy legs. I am trying to find pictures of shoes made for feet with
curled toes and fixed ankles (=> lifted heel).

    Vesna,
Try google with different keywords. I found many sites with "shoes for
deformed feet". I am googling in English but you would be better doing
    it in your language.

    Hi Vesna,
I have had custom made shoes, but they were ugly. what I think you
could do, if you are going to a good shoemaker who understand your
needs, is take pictures of shoes you would like to wear. if he knows
his stuff he will know how to modify them to fit your needs. I am sure
you understand what you can and cannot wear and will chose
    accordingly.

Vesna -- I found two websites that may be helpful.

The first one shows many pictures of "MBT" brand footwear styles. The
shoes are designed specifically for people with ankles that have little
or no flexibility. Here is the link:
    http://www.footwearetc.com/MBT/Womens/

The second site is for a company that makes modifications for footwear--
such as wedges, lifts, stabilizers, etc. This sounds like it may be
what you were interested in finding. Here is the link:
    http://www.liftmelevel.com/RockerSole.html

I wear a brace on each ankle with a full length brace (foot to hip) on
one of my legs. I had to have my "braces shoes" modified to house
the platform of the ankle braces. I know how difficult it is to find
ortho shoes that are also attractive.

I hope the above sites can aid in your search. Good luck.

    Take care.

Vesna -- I was just surfing the forum and I saw below (in my
news-reader) a post addressed to you. It is from "Rose B"

"Rose B" listed some more sites (one of them I also noted in my
earlier post). I copied & pasted her post below, just in case you
    missed it.

Again -- for credit, the below post is from "Rose B."

    Take care.

    |I did some research on ankle fusion and shoes. it seems as though you
    | will need a shoe with a rocker bottom to make up for the lack of
    | mobility in the ankles. The following websites had information:
    |
    | http://blog.footwearetc.com/2008/06/...-ankle-fusion/
    |
    | the MBT shoe was recommended on other sites for this purpose
    | here are some photos
    | http://www.footwearetc.com/MBT/Womens/
    |
    | I know these are not the nice dainty shoes you had hoped to wear.
    |
    | here is a journal article that discusses the type of footwear needed.
    |
    | specific shoes are not mentioned. what is mentioned is the need for an
    | addition to a shoe that would allow for the ""rocker" bottom that is
    | needed.
    |
    |
    | the following article also has good information
    |
    http://journals.lww.com/techfootankl...cations.7.aspx
    |
    | I hope this helps.

Thanks for reposting, M. These articles are good because they are from
medical journals so would be a good thing for anyone to save if they
are contemplating ankle fusion or have ankle mobility issues.

the other issue that I reminded myself of this afternoon, is that I
have not written to thank you for the yoga video. For much of August,
I was in a state of suspended animation (LOL), with no motivation to
do much of anything. I think partially this was a result of the
oxycodone that I needed post-op, but also I lost a great deal of blood
during my surgery. there may also have been a bit of depression
happening. it seems as though this summer things came to a head re:
the loss of my sister last year, and different family issues that have
appeared as a result. I am better now and more like myself.

Please accept my apologies for being late, and my thanks for the
    video.

I sincerely hope all is well with you.

So glad to hear you are on the way up, RoseB. It's rough when everything
seems to hit you at the same time. Quite frankly, I don't know how my niece
is handling all that is on her plate. God bless.

thank you. I think we can deal with a lot of "stuff" as it is
happening, but then go through a period of "crash and burn| when it is
all over. I think post-traumatic stress is more common than we know
about. your niece is lucky to have you for support.
