Praying that you all are staying safe as well as healthy with all this
heat, humidity and the resulting vicious storms that have been moving
through.
So much destruction from the storms with their high winds, lightening,
flooding, etc.
This crazy weather is really playing havoc with my breathing and joints,
so hoping the rest of you are fairing better and hanging in there as
well!
Everyone check in when you can and let us all you are ok! (Gary Z. you
ok?)

97 at noon today. 97 tomorrow, and then 82, 78, and by Saturday it'll
be 75. The overnight lows are going from 71 (tonight and tomorrow) down
to the mid and then low 60s. The weekend will feel like a cold snap
after the beginning of the week! lol
I'm ok. Staying under A/C and drinking plenty of fluids. Not getting
outside to do more than accompany my grandson to the bus stop (two
blocks) and walk the dog, just a few blocks. Any exercise I'm getting
is indoors.

it's this hot and humid. Hope the ones with breathing problems are okay and

horrible as it can get down here in the sunny South. It's "supposed" to
cool down to the low 90's (I can hear the Yankees saying "Cool down to 90?")
by Wedensday. We had some scattered blowups around us, but all we got were
a few huge raindrops. Thursday and on, they are forecasting the normal
evening showers and thunderstorms. That reminds me of the one weather man
who sure wanted to cover his a.. He said "a slight chance of a rumble of
thunder!" LOL

| | | Re: Storms, heat, humidit Navy!!! Navy,
We Yankees are giving you a run for your money as far as the heat goes.
It was officially 97 here yesterday with feel like temp of 104. Today
is supposed to be a bit higher and then cool down to 80's for rest of
the week. I live almost on the ocean so I do get a breeze late at night
for sleeping with the windows open, so that's a good thing. Try to stay
cool everyone and join me in praying for those in flood and tornado
areas who are suffering huge losses.

LOL! how well I remember moving from (north Florida to Boston, back in 2000
- having never lived north of the Mason-Dixon line in my life up to then.
The folowing spring, we got a few hot days and I absolutely burst out
laughing when the weatherman stated it isn't an official heat wave until it
hits 90 or higher for 3 straight days. 3 days!?!??!?!??!?!?!? 3
days!?!?!?!?!??!
I gotta admit now that it takes some adjustment when I visit my mom anytime
but winter. My body just isn't used to the heat and humidity the way it was
when I lived down there. And this house does not have landscaping designed
to help with hot, sunny days! (planted 2 deciduous shade trees this year,
but they'll only be a slight help this year.)

I feel for all those that are being hit by tornados, flooding, and the heat

With this wind being so strong today and tomorrow and the low humidity it
has set up for fires again. So many burning in the area right now.

LOL, when I worked 7a-3p and lived with my sister in her then un-air
conditioned house, a heat wave was anytime you couldn't get the indoor temp
under 88 by 11 pm. I had some really late nights waiting for it to get cool
enough to sleep some before work!
Then again, when i worked nights and lived there, daytime sleeping in the
summer got REALLY interesting! I'd pull the blinds down as soon as I got
home and could usually keep my room cool enough until 2 or 3 pm for sleeping.
We worked 10 hours then, so only 4 days and no more than 3 in a row. I
could go on short sleep for that long back in those days. (heehee, if I'd
known what was going to hit me at 28, I might have pushed the limits even
more at 24-25!)
When we'd get caught in what even Floridians called a heat wave, I've
sometmes go to my parents' a/ced house once or twice/week to sleep well for a
few hours.

BOY can I relate! I live in Las Vegas (Sin City should be renamed
OVEN CITY !!) In June we had a week of record breaking heat (triple
digits). It cooled off (80's & 90's) for a couple weeks and then BAM,
right back up into the triple digits again.
There is sometimes a good breeze, but it's more like a hot blow dryer,
big help! It is 11am and the thermometer in my COVERED patio area
already reads 102.
I become a hermit in the summer, mostly going out at night (if at
all). Even at midnight the temp might still be in the 90's.
Hang in there ladies - I feel your pain!

reinforcing that! At least in Florida you can stand to go out in the morning
and the evening, though you have to be careful not to overdo it in the high
humidity, when perspiration doesn't evvaporate.
It's been really starnge here in northern Michigan lately. The last 3 days
saw highs in the 50s (10-15C)! Supposedly will be slightly warmer today,
then finally becoming seasonal over the weekend.

Well, it's not been bad, but I rely on my Glucosamine HCI a LOT more!
With it, at least I can cope.

Pretty well, considering. I actually always had more problems with
weather & barometric pressure CHANGES. The heat mostly affects my
Multiple Sclerosis (bad bad thing!) Anyway, my arthritis is pretty
well controlled with Glucosamine HCI (not the ones with
chondroitin..really not necessary). I found a little company where I
can buy it wholesale too! So, all in all, not too bad. |

Actually I don't think it's a mind over matter thing. I've tried all
different types of natural things and this is the only one that works. |

Harv,
NO medication works for everyone and that includes supplements like
glucosamine.
If I'm not mistaken, there have been studies that have shown that
glucosamine works for many individuals, especially those with
osteoarthritis.
So, not a placebo effectat all.
I have heard rheumatologists recommend this supplement to their
patients.

| | | Re: Storms, heat, humidity, oh my!!! OK,,,, point taken. Taking over the counter supplements does not replace
an appointment to find out what is actually going on with an RD. In fact,
it might put off such an appointment. I have not said that gluco/condri.
does not help people,,,, Cush proved that to me a long time ago and I did
not go down easy. The best example I can think of is a person with actual
damage in a joint like torn or a tare and a person taking whatever over the
counter product in hopes of it making the joint OK. The inflammation in a
joint after a period of time,,,, does its own kind of damage to make things
worse.
We had a post not to long ago about swollen thumbs where it had been
going on for over a year.... Poor doctoring and poor posting on our part
for not trying to get that person to see and RD and get something done,,,
get that swelling down,,,, slow down the damage that is on going. People
try to do one of two things first,,,,, is there a cheep what to handle
this,,,,, they just endure and it goes on and on and on while the damage
just mounts up and they have had pain all this time and will have in the
future. So it goes and I will shut up now.

Of course the person should see their doctor regularly - no question
or argument there - but that should be with any form of medication and/
or symptom. All I am saying is that sometimes there are natural
alternatives that may help. My doctors (actually for all my
conditions) are proponents of finding out what works for the
individual, whether it be prescription meds, alternative meds,
nutritional meds, etc. Sometimes these are stand alone and other
times they are in conjunction with each other.
It is true that people with shellfish allergies must NOT take anything
containing glucosamine, just as people with MS should not take
anything like echinacea.

That is why I began taking it, Donna, my rheumatologist
recommended it. I believe it helps me. He said there is no proof
that Chondroitin helps, so I don't take it. My rheumatologist
rocks.
