Calorie counter: Soft Serve
April 17, 2007
Everyone needs a tasty treat now and then.
Especially when it's less than 150 calories and
packed with healthy calcium. A one-half cup
serving of Dairy Queen vanilla soft serve is just
140 calories, with 4.5 grams of fat and a
whopping 150 milligrams of calcium.
FOOD FACTOR: CITRUS
Have an orange or slice of grapefruit. Eating at
least one citrus fruit a day can slash the risk of
mouth cancer, the seventh most common kind, by 62
percent, say Italian researchers who analyzed 16
studies. Try adding citrus to your breakfast menu
and as a natural snack.
NEWS FLASH: BREAST-FEEDING
Children who were breast-fed may be less likely to
be overweight than their bottle-fed peers, and
most of that benefit can be attributed to less
weight gain in infancy, a study says.
Researchers in the Netherlands found that among
more than 2,300 children followed from birth to
age 7, those who were breast-fed for more than 16
weeks generally had a lower body mass index at the
age of 1. Similarly, these children had a lower
average BMI and were less likely than their peers
to be overweight by age 7.
