Default Digital Mammogram Question??

A relative went recently to have her annual Mammogram and Ultrasound and
told me the place uses Digital for the tests because Digital is more
accurate and precise than regular ways. It seems Digital is more
accurate especially for those with Fibrocystic breasts.

Has anyone here used the Digital method for Mammograms etc? Have you
found it to be more accurate and precise and caused you to have fewer
biopsies for "shadows" they get with regular tests and do not know how
to interpret until they do a biopsy?

My next annual Mammo is due soon and I am trying to decide if I should
make sure to go to a place which uses Digital. I did not know they were
using Digital. In fact I had no idea what the hospital that did my last
tests used. Everything seemed the same to me. Thanks for any info you
can share.

I have always dreaded my mammos after bc in 1992. They always hurt so much
particularly where I had intensive rads near the sternum. However, last
year I was pleasantly surprised
when it did not hurt nearly as much, not as much compression
required and when I asked why was told it was a new
digital machine. Best part was that I did not have to go
back after they had read the images because one or more
were not clear enough.

The place I go is all digital, you will not notice any difference. It is
comparing have your picture taken with film verses a digital camera.
With a digital mammogram they can enlarge any area with a click of a mouse.

Thanks for the replies. I found some info on this while I was waiting
for your answers and if the info is correct, it seems they only use
Digital for women 50 and under and they can't have had a lumpectomy etc
or be post-menopausal. This would put be out of the ballgame. I also
wonder if my insurance would still cover a Digital since they seem to be
more expensive.
I will make some phone calls this week and find out where I stand with
the Digital.

Thanks again ladies for your replies and info.

Now here's where a slightly OT comment is actually ON topic for the ng.
After my dx last April I was so glad that my OBGyn had recommended
an ultrasound in 2005 and subsequently in 2006. My BC did not show up
on the mamo because of the fibrocystic mess. But it did on the ultrasound.

Another key point. My PC physician has been my doc for almost
30 years and I trust him. I had him do my pelvics until 2005 when a
change in INS forced me to select an OBGyn. He was the one that
started ordering the ultrasounds. Makes me wonder if they could have
seen this a few years earlier. Ah---water under the bridge. But it does
make me understand now the need for seeing specialists even when
you don't seem to have any overwhelming issues in those areas.
