Default I am panicking....Do docs call you back in office for normal mammogram?

Hi,

I am new and just had my first mamogram last week. I got a call this
morning from the docs office stating that the doctor would like to see
me to discuss my mammorgram results. I know I may sound like a
hypochondriac, but I am petrified that I have cancer.

Do doctors ever call you back if the results are normal?

My mom had Lymphoma when she was quite young and every time I go to the
doctor or have a test (since the age of 13) I am convinced that they
will finally find out I have cancer.... I even avoided the doctor for
about 15 years, I am so afraid.

I found a decent doc finally after having a bad case of hypothyroid
that is now medicated.

Don't panic yet. It may be that there was a problem with the mamogram
and that another one needs to be done. Or they might have had a problem
interpreting the results and need another look.

Well, you've been brave now and had it done. It's unlikely that it's
cancer, most unusual results turn out to be nothing.

If there *is* a problem, they will deal with it and there's lots of
support here and in other sites on the web for anyone who is frightened
and needs help and reassurance.

I had problems finding a doctor I liked and now that I have I can't move
house, in case I can't find another one like her.

Thanks for calm and positive information.

I have just gotten my thyroid condition under control and am exercising
and feeling better... guess part of it is that I don't want to be sick
again.

Again thanks and best wishes to you.

Please don't be. It might not be that you have cancer, other things (which
can be dealt with) show up on mammograms but even if it is cancer you'll be
on the way to dealing with it.

Your not a hypochondriac because you feel that way, many other people do. In
time, as they go through treatments, they learn to be calm and accepting.
Cancer isn't the death threat it used to be and if you do have it you'll
probably come through at the other end being as matter of fact about it as
most of us here are :-)

Don't go away, let us know how things are.

Hugs,

Mary
