Default Need Your Stories

We want your story about how breast cancer changed your life - for the
better.

My friend, Hayley, is a 40-year-old breast cancer survivor; her friend,
Susan, is an editor and a volunteer in a support organization for cancer
patients and their families. We have all seen how this terrible disease can
be a source of unexpected blessings.

Hayley & Susan are writing a book about life after breast cancer. We need
stories full of love, hope and inspiration to let others know that there is
life after breast cancer. If you are a breast cancer survivor or if your
life has been touched by breast cancer-as a partner, child, parent or
friend, we'd like to hear from you.

Please email us for more information. If you know someone who might be
interested in contributing to this book, please feel free to forward this ad
to them.

Thank you,

Michael

Forget it. We've had more than enough idiotic "Why I'm glad I have breast
cancer" books and articles.

Feminist though I am, I must point out that only we women are particularly
susceptible to this touchy-feely garbage. Did you ever see a book/article
written by a man titled, "Why I'm glad I have prostate cancer"? or "Why I
found my prostate cancer to be a source of unexpected Blessings" ? I don't
think so!

I would suggest women take the same pragmatic approach that men do. Cancer
is a terrible disease. We will do our best to fight it and survive. We
will NOT, however, consider cancer a blessing in any way, shape or form.

S.K.

Since my wife died of breast cancer it's been much easier to balance my
bank account, I get all the love of my children to myself and NO-ONE
criticises me.

But I have to admit, the sex life isn't as good.

My life wasn't changed for the better but nor was it changed for the worse.

My husband's prostate cancer didn't change his life for the better but nor
was it changed for the worse.

We're both still alive, we're not aware of how precious life is because of
the cancers. We had that experience years ago, me by a brain tumour and he
by a heart attack.

I think I'm not part of your "we". My primary cancer back in 2000 was a
kind of kick in the pants for me, and my life since then has been
unquestionably better than it was before. Maybe that kick would have
come anyways, and maybe not, but the cancer was certainly a turning
point for me. I don't usually call things "blessings", but some good
came out of the whole awful experience.

Don't get me wrong - a whole sh!tload of bad came out of it, including
the fact that I'm now stage IV. But with the bad did come some good,
and I'm grateful for that.

Same here. But I don't want to be included in any survey about it, if I want
to broadcast how I feel I'll do it for myself.
