Default Severe Breast Pain

I have stage 0 breast cancer and have had a biopsy and then another
surgery to remove more of the cancer and when I went to the Oncologist
she said there was still cancer there. I am going to have the flap
surgery. Have the breast removed and rebuilt at the same time. I have
been having a lot of problems falling thru the cracks at Shands to
finally get the surgery set up. In ER they gave me Percacet (SP) and
told me to keep on them at Shands till they finally get my surgery set
up and that is what I will do every day till they get it done.

The pain I was having was sharp shooting pain thru my breast to my chest
wall and down my right arm. The pain was definitely a 10.

Was there pain before the surgery? If not this is probably due to the
surgery, i.e. having perhaps damaged a nerve, and nothing to do with the
cancer per se. In that case it should sort itself out fairly quickly,
the pain should fade over a few weeks and you'll be able to taper off
the Percocet. The further surgery may quite possibly, but not
necessarily, eradicate it.

Default Re: Severe Breast Pain

I can understand your pain. I found a lump last year and a lumpectomy was
performed to remove the lump. It turned out to be invasive ductal
carcinoma cancer but with no clear margins. They didn't get all the cancer
I had to have a mastectomy. I was in stage 2B with 3 positive lymph nodes
and a grade 3 tumor. I know the pain your describing. I had that pain form
the time they performed the lumpectomy to 3 weeks later when I had my
mastectomy. Once I had the mastectomy that pain went away. It was a sharp
pain I couldn't bear. I feel this was the cancer that was left and now
exposed. I also had reconstruction but not at the time of mastectomy. Your
smart in getting it now.
Good luck,
Pami
