Tell the FDA to Enforce Silicone Breast Implant Recommendations

The New York Times recently reported that plastic surgeons are
challenging FDA recommendations to conduct biannual MRIs on women
receiving silicone breast implants, with some surgeons saying they
will not follow the guidelines. MRIs are important for follow-up
because it is the only way doctors can tell if a silicone implant has
ruptured. Contact the FDA and tell them that these recommendations
must be enforced in order to protect women's health. Send an email or
a letter to CDRH/FDA, 1350 Piccard Drive, HFZ-210, Rockville, MD
20850. You can also call the FDA at 1-800-638-2041. Please let us know
if you have taken action.

Sample text/script:

To Whom It May Concern:

The FDA should enforce the recommendations that were established
when silicone breast implants were approved in November of 2006. The
recommendations require physicians to let patients know that they will
need biannual MRIs to detect ruptures. This follow-up is very
important because ruptures in silicone implants could go unnoticed
without an MRI. Please help protect the health of women who receive
silicone implants by enforcing these recommendations.

Sincerely,

Dear Ilena

Can I respectfully ask that you review your cross-posting policy.

This month you have originated more than 50% of the threads on
alt.support.cancer.breast, and many of your posts, such as this one, are
rather distant from this group's topic. We have a relatively small
amount of traffic on this group, and your activity makes it look more
like the Ilena Rose news service.

I understand that you may feel that anything to do with breast implants
is necessarily of interest to cancer patients. That is patently not
true for many, and in any case is for the reader to decide, as they are
perfectly capable of subscribing to the alt.support.breast-implant if it
is relevant to them.

The same argument has been used by computer vendors etc. to claim that
they can legitimately spam all newsgroups because they "all use
computers". It has long been held by ISP's to be no defence against
being barred for spamming.

Can you please restrict your posting in this group to articles which
actually directly discuss (and not merely mention) the subject of breast
cancer.
