Default Worried and concerned

Hello,

My wife who is 42 had a biopsy today and we must now wait until Monday
or Tuesday for the results. However, the surgeon told me he didn't
like the "way it looked or felt" and that together with being the size
of a golf ball has me really worried. The doc also said there was no
fluid in the lump. Back in her 20's she had a benign cyst removed.
The doc wouldn't hazard a guess but he mentioned cases where he
thought it was malignant and it wasn't and vice versus. My read is
that he thinks this is cancer. I would welcome any thoughts on
whether this is likely cancer or not.

I don't really think anyone here could hope to second-guess the surgeon
who is the expert and who has seen and felt the thing. Most lumps
biopsied aren't cancer, but often the surgeon has a pretty good idea
what the likelihood is. So I don't think there is any way to improve on
what he said. As you say, he seems to think that on the balance of
probabilities it is malignant, but we just have to be patient and wait
for the proof one way or the other.

Well they always say hope for the best but prepare for the worst. It's
completely natural to be worried. No way can anyone answer your question.
Only the pathologist examining the biopsy can do that. I wish your wife the
best of luck and I'd like to direct you to a website I found very helpful.
www.breastcancer.org. There is lots of really good info there and the
discussion boards full of wonderful people who are very helpful.

Waiting is the worst.... hope for the best. The good news even if it is
breast cancer, if caught early the prognosis is good. Dr Susan Love has a
book about Breast Health, check out that book. Let us know how it turns
out.

We are not quite where you are at. The Dr discovered the mass during
a routine exam on Tuesday and we were given the "troublesome" talk.
She pointed out an inverted nipple, "grainy" feel of the affected
breast vers the normal, and to top things off one lymph node slightly
swollen in the arm pit of the affect side. The biopsy is not until
Friday 7/13 though. Then we will have our wait until Monday.

Best of luck.
