Default Abiraterone trial after four months

Diagnosed March 28, 2000 PSA 39.6. Gleason 7
41 Proton (Not Photon) radiation treatments
25 Months on Lupron
PSA < 1.0 at times.
Rise in PSA, Orchiectomy april 1, 2003 (What an April Fools Day Joke)
PSA rose again, 30 weeks of chemo, PSA dropped to about 3
Discontinued chemo because of side effects, PSA shot up to 16.
Doubling rate is about 7 weeks.
Started chemo again but not effective.
Started Abiraterone 4 months ago with PSA of 18.9
Had complete CT scans and bone scans at start.
After one month PSA had dropped to 16. something
Next month PSA was 18.6
Yesterday PSA had dropped again to 16.4.
People running clinical trail tell me it is common that PSA does not
drop.
Bone scan and CT scans two weeks ago showed no increase in cancer from
start of treatment.
I feel the best I have in 9 years., full of energy and very active.

Side effects are minimal.
1. Skin is thin and brusis and cuts easily.....maybe the prednisone or
possibly the abiraterone.
2. Some fluid retention in legs...I wear elastic stockings..
3. Today I have to get a haircut...first in about two yeqrs.
4. Have to shave.
5.I have had 4 or 5 hot flases in last four months.
Clinical trial is at Fox Chase Cancer Reasearch Center in Phila. PA

Allan, who is your doctor at Fox Chase? Kevin is in the process of
setting up an appointment with Dr. Gary Hudes there.

I hope to post an update later today.

Thanks for the update, Allan. PSA notwithstanding, feeling the best you've
felt in 9 years is certainly nice to hear (read).

I must say that this is a fine response. Stable disease and gently
lowering psa for four months is way, way better than the untreated
alternative. Side effects are much less than your earlier treatments
which were supposedly less toxic. This shows a durability of treatment
that will be necessary for FDA approval. Thank you Allan. You are a
brave man.
