Default ADT Causes Periodontal Disease??

As if we didn't have enough to worry about, now comes a study that
*suggests* that ADT might cause dental troubles.

See: Famili et al., "The effect of androgen deprivation therapy on
periodontal disease in men with prostate cancer."

Their conclusion: "Men with prostate cancer undergoing androgen
deprivation therapy were more likely to have periodontal disease than
men not on androgen deprivation therapy. If confirmed in larger studies,
this observation could have important public health implications, given
the increasing use of androgen deprivation therapy to treat prostate
cancer."

PubMed ID 17296376

Black dang it, what next? Ingrown toenails? Pimples?

Steve J

When I told my dentists about my PCa, the first thing they asked was
about whether I was going to receive radiation, chemo, or hormones.

Did the article suggest a reason why there would be a link?

Prior to ADT, my remaining teeth were white and strong...now they are
brown and tend to chip. My Paki dentist attributes this to the ADT. My
professor of my combined ADT & Rad treatment pooh-poohs this out of
hand...go figger??

Easy. I'm assuming the prof. is Anglo? Then do what he says. Ya
Limey.

It looks like the humble man with the open mind is a lot wiser
than the mighty professor.

No limeys here, only convicts and free Irish settlers...and then
there's me, the cynic

The prof is of Jewish ancestry and is protecting his budget for the
next Clinical Trial.

The Paki dentist has impressive qualifications and not much to lose by
being honest with me.

Haven't seen your USAF overhead since WW2.
