Default AMA policy

What does this mean? A doctor can't discuss cancer, OA, RA, MS,
etc., with a patient who has that particular disease/disability?

Doctors group opposes calling obesity a disability at policy meeting in Chicago
Tuesday, June 16, 2009

CHICAGO -- The American Medical Association has taken action to support
doctors' ability to discuss obesity with their overweight patients.

Under a new policy adopted today, the AMA formally opposes efforts by
advocacy groups to define obesity as a disability.

Doctors fear using that definition makes them vulnerable under disability
laws to lawsuits from obese patients who don't want their doctors to discuss
their weight. (With whom? The patients?)

Doctors took the action at their annual meeting in Chicago.

1. It means the people who conduct themselves in such a way that they end
up fat want to be give special privileges for their actions. And why not?
They've seen those privileges given to others; drug abusers being the least
controversial here, I think. Personally, speaking as a fat man, I think it
sucks.

2. Doctors apparently feel they are hamstrung when it comes to discussing
disabilities with the disabled. That, if true, is a sad state of affairs.
