| | | anecdote regarding raising money to fight PC Yesterday, the twenty-something checker at my grocery store asked if I
would like to "make a donation to support prostate cancer." I told
him "No, and perhaps you'd like to re-phrase that." He gave me a
confused look - the same look my dog gives me when I try to teach him
algebra. I kept my change and walked out.

That was not cute nor something of which to brag.
It was probably at a Safeway market or one of the group.
The charity involved is the Prostate Cancer Foundation. June was PCa
month at the markets.
Dave should reassess his priorities.

Easy there, Steve. Dave was commenting on the way the question was phrased.
No one !supports! prostate cancer -- no one who understands anything about
it. Perhaps "Would you care to make a contribution supporting treatment of
PCa?" or "Prostate cancer patients would appreciate any donation you could
give."
Incidentally, my wife and I attended a movie Thursday and a short preview
film clip mentioned that this was PCa support month. (Or text to that
effect.)

Weeell, maybe I was a bit on the cranky side.

Easy there, Ken. You're at risk of spoiling the reputation I've worked
so hard to build.

| | | Re: anecdote regarding raising money to fight PC In Chicago, we have Dominick's, a Safeway co.
They have the same thng..and I've heard it expressed every which way.
I donate, get their T-Shirts, and pass them around.
The troubling thing is how few people seem to give...as opposed to the
breast cancer drive.
The women have done a great job getting the message out there...and, it
has been discussed here before...the guys seem to have a 'macho'
resistance to yelling it from the rooftops.
It's more common...what with TV commercials for drugs like Avodart, Flomax etc...but it'll be hard to catch the gals.
I hope there will be a cure before we ever begin to evaluate the
'marketing' in depth.
Best to all,
Ron B.

I have to say I agree with Steve. Dave could have been a little more
instructive rather than just rude... which is what he was.
