Brachy post-op

Had my Brachy Wednesday and from what I can tell went without a hitch.
Passed all the tests with the nurse and was allowed to go home that day.
I have to screen my urine for seven days and it seems at night after
being imobile I pass blood clots when I urinate two or three times
during the night. During the day when I'm moving around everything is
fine. Just talked to the doc and he didn't seem to concerned about it.
If anyone would care to share their post-op experiences I would
appreciate it.

Stay quiet for a few more days! It doesn't matter how good you feel - stay
quiet! No chopping firewood or moving the sofa. The swelling prostate is apt
to push a seed from its placement. You'll probably go back in 3 weeks for a
scan and to make sure every seed is accounted for and in place.

You will notice a war going on in your body. You will be tired. If you have
any problems starting your stream got in touch with the doc and get a Rx!
The prostate swells and that can pinch off the flow of urine. Don't wait
until you can't go! If you already have the Rx for this take it!

A little blood is quite normal.

Similar, but wasn't asked to screen my urine. I was told it would appear
brownish, with what would appear to be clotting would only last for a few
days. And I did not pee out any of the pellets. Maybe that's why you were
to screen your urine.?

I've been prone to throw a few kidney stones through the years. And a sieve
was once given to me when I left the hospital. Never did check to see how
much the hospital billed the insurance company for that.

Hi RJ...At some point, when you return to the doc, he will run a D90
scan (or something similar). It is basically a contour map, plotiing
radioactive intensity in and around your prostate. The D90 scan is
his report card, it will show if there are any hot or cold spots. You
might want to ask him to explain this in more detail and to share the

RJ, remember if you have to urniate and can not, try sitting in a sitzbath
and pee into the water. I found that doing this four times in a 24 hr period
kept me from havng to get catherized again.

Sounds pretty much like my experiences a year ago, except I had only one
blood clot, that I noticed. And because of a pre-existing bladder
problem, I did experience some on-going urination difficulties. Flomax
seems to be of some help.

I go back to see my rad onc next week for a 12-month report, but all in
all things seem to be going okay, so far.

If I recall correctly, at about 4-6 weeks following the implant the urinary
symptoms (frequency and urgency) seemed to peak, then began to return to
normal. The radiation irritates the prostate and as the radiation decays so
does the irritation, pd103 has about 1/3 the half life of i125.
