    Default Got Brothers Imaging results.

Talked to my brother after he got the results from Sand Lake
yesterday. They found lesions in a left rib, left iliac and a
vertebrae in lower back and also both left and right lymph nodes. They
told him that they should be treatable with 4D-IG IMRT/DART. He will
start nine weeks treatment about May 30th. Guess we just have to wait
    and see if it works.

The traditional view is that treating metastases with radiation can kill
those particular metastases but not cure the disease because, if there
are visible metastases in some areas there will be invisible ones (i.e.
too small to see in a scan) elsewhere that will continue to grow.

Some doctors are wondering if that's true in most cases but not all.
Apparently, the imaging is getting better and smaller and smaller
metastases are being found in the scans. Maybe it's actually possible
to find and kill all the cancer - at least in some patients.

I think it's smartest to assume that the radiation will NOT kill all the
cancer, but it could well be worth doing anyway. I would think that
destroying some of the cancer is desirable even if we can't get it all.
It may also prevent painful symptoms down the road in the areas that
    are radiated.

Maybe he can combine this radiation treatment with ADT, maybe with
    advanced treatment like Zytiga/Abiraterone.

Best of luck to your brother.

When Kevin developed mets on his spine he had 10 days of RT to prevent them
from growing and causing problems with his spine. He also had some small
ones on his ribs, but they were not treated with RT. The RT was only to
prevent the mets from growing more, not to cure them. At the same time he
set up an appointment with the med. onc. to determine further treatment and
that led to his starting chemo, Taxotere. The one big difference between
Kevin and Ron's brother is that Kevin had already had 40 something IMRT
treatments and was on ADT from day one. At no time after the mets were
discovered was there any thought that RT would get rid of them.

I am still in a furnished apartment with all the records in storage with my
furniture, so this is all done from memory.
