Default How long did it take you for Flomax to start working?

I was prescribed Flomax today after having trouble with going many
times. My prostrate biopsy results were all negative.

The doctor told me it would make me piss like I was 20 again.

Has anyone taken it that did not benefit from it?

How long does it take to work?

It didn't make me a 20 year old but, if I remember correctly,
it did start helping within less than a day.

I've been taking it for 5 weeks now, immediately following seed implants.
At first, it helped immensely with no side effects. For the past two weeks
it seems to wear off after about 12 hours. If I can remember not to drink
anything after about 6 pm, I can make it through the night, or at least
until about 5:30 am. Beyond that, I have returned to normal. When golfing,
I pee frequently if I'm drinking anything on the course. I can make it
    through a 2 1/2 hour movie with no problems. I'm 65, I can't remember what
it was like to pee like a 20 year old. I just picked up another 30 day
supply, but don't plan to take any unless symptoms return. I don't know if
you can become addicted to it's use.

I have a bottle in my drawer, but I haven't had to use it yet. (SI on
    10/23/6).

However, I've heard a few on the net mention sexual side effects. I'm
wondering if anyone here has experienced them and what exactly they
    are?

I have been told that Flomax by my Medical Oncologist and Radiation
Oncologist is relatively safe with little or no side effects. I have taken
two a day since April 22, 2003. Flomax works by relaxing the smooth muscles.
Smmoth muscles are found in the urinary tract. I continue to take because I
like to pee like a 20 year old at least twice during the day....

Well, in my case, any sexual side effects would have to be
    positive.

I recommend caution regarding anything "a few on the net" have to say.

Their link to Flomax takes you here.

I know much more now than I did before reading that information.

LOL!! Did they happen to mention in all of that high-faluting stuff
that one must watch out for sudden fainting spells when using their
product?? Especially if one is already on meds for high blood
    pressure?

My husband collapsed after the first pill and continued to *hit the
floor* for 24 hours!! He does have a predisposition to this due to
    *vaso vagus syndrome* however.

Figured I would let you ferret that info out, but the warning from me
is a serious one. All they say is watch out for dizzy spells and not
    to get up too fast.

And if one pays attention, one will be aware of the risks.

But: it is the responsibility of our medics to know these things. And
for the most part, they do not.

So the burden of education devolves upon thee and me.

    Heather,
You've hit the nail on the head ; "any" alpha blocker ; Doxazosin (Cardura),
Prazosin (Minipress) , Terazosin (Hytrin) are a few others along with Flomax
that can cause dizziness and/or syncope (feinting spells). I take cardura
for B.P. issues and was instructed by my GP to take it at bedtime for that
    reason.

Following seeding, my Uro, in consultation with the GP, increased the dosage
of Cardura slightly, but did not prescribe Flomax because of the other alpha
    blocker.

I've forgotten to take the Cardura at bedtime a couple of times and taken it
in the AM, I'll NEVER do that again.

I have been taking flomax for about 14 months. No problems, no sexual
side effects, to my knowledge, no positive ones anyways.

My husband was prescribed Flomax for frequent urination.
He took it for a week then discontinued it; he got weaker and weaker, got
unsteady and came close to passing out. He regrets that, though, since
    Flomax worked so well.

Oops - forgot to mention he's also on BP medication (which I feel the MD
    should have taken into account).

He certainly should have......but there seems to be other things causing
the dizzy spells as well. I was told it was like getting a double dose
of high blood pressure pills. And that will cause you to pass out.
Ron's heart rate, btw......is a constant 55-60. Which is how the
paramedics diagnosed his vaso vagus syncope. They got here so fast that
they caught it. The family doctor was amazed!!

Congrats to the paramedics - I don't know what people would do without them.
I'm glad to hear your husband was diagnosed so quickly. Thinking of you,
