Haarlem - about 20 minutes drive from Amsterdam - less from Schipol.
Sorry guys - I was still drunk from the return journey when I posted
earlier.
Saint Bavos, largest Organ in the Netherlands and almost but not quite the
oldest organ in the planet.
I HAD thought we were going to be doing the "Oude Kerke" in Amsterdam, but
got mustook over details and it was really in Haarlem the conference. (I
didn't go to it - more interested in the Organ!)
Mozart played on this beast when he was just ten years old, his Fantasia in
F Minor composed when he was just 12. (Find it - play it and deny his
genius!) To think a 12 year old could dance on the pedals so quickly in the
closing codas - OMG!
I felt SO privileged to be at the console of this monster, especially with
Klaas van Mulder, the resident in watching me, totally overwhelming.
I played some Scottish & Dutch Hymns (with my style of Improvisations) and
actually got applause from gallery two on my renditions of "Belmont" (The
Lord's My Sheperd) and "Guide me O Thou Great Redeemer"
I finished with the great Dutch Hymn "Grose mei Vater, bei du mir" which is
sung to the tune of "Rule Britannia!" There were a few cheers! I really put
my all into that one. Thought the pipes were about to launch into space!
(Also did a really Majestic interpro of "Mine eyes have seen the Glory" that
got a lot of applause)
Nothing recorded. Shame. Didn't have any equipment for that, but WHAT an
experience! To have danced on the same pedals as Wolfie!
Dunno WHAT do now except have a quiet cup of coffee... and reflect.
WOWWWW!
THANKYOU GOD!
