Default OT: Peppers (was HERBS)

I was just reading a very interesting article about 'hot stuff.'

Pepper hotness is rated in Scoville units, a measure of the capsaicin
content. (The hotness alkaloid.)

A bell pepper is rated at zero, pure capsaicin is 16 million. (Ya
don't want that stuff, for sure.)

Most off the shelf hot sauces range from a mean of about 1000 up to
the high end of 300,000. However, there are some custom sauces that
range up to 1.5 million or so. These sell at about 50 bucks an ounce
and have names such as Armageddon, Spontaneous Combustion, Acid Rain,
Brain Damage, and Great Bowels of Fire. (Ya have to love that one.)

The one considered the very hottest is called Da' Bomb and is sold
with a warning label saying brain damage may occur.

Capsaicin Alkaoloids attach to nerve endings in the tongue that
detect heat. You can get the same effect by sticking your hand into a
flame, and the body's reaction is much the same - it often causes an
irregular heartbeat and breathing. Your body temp will go down,
you'll sweat, digestion speeds up and then the body will generate
endorphins, natures calmer. (And that's the big reason folks take
this stuff, the rush is like a cocaine high - so they say.)

BTW, it has been said the amount of 'Da Bomb on the end of a toothpick
can make death seem like a good option.

Some benchmarks: (Scoville units)

Bell Pepper 0
Jalapenos 5,000
Tabasco 50,000
Thai Chilies 100,000
Habaneros 300,000

Bout time for the chili tasting contest letter again.

Wonder how those good ole bubba boys would do with a bit of 'Da Bomb
thrown in the pot?

This fellow claims to have cured his cancer by eating Habaneros, the
hottest pepper. I can't find habeneros here but have been trying
jalapenos which painful enough. I read groups that eat the most
peppers have the lowest incidence of cancer. So maybe he's on to
something.

Kevin,
That is the same flim flam man who has been bothering this newsgroup with his spam.
awthrawthr <awthrawthr@gmail.com> aka BeWelKel aka Eidem.
For 12+ years he has been making those claims.
For 12+ years numerous people have asked him for proof he had cancer.
He has no proof, because he self-diagnosed himself with a pregnancy test.

Here's his signs and symptoms..in his own words. from the archives..
Painful lesions and testicular pain.

There have been times when I thought I might have cancer. In fact,
that has been true for the last several weeks. There was a previous time, about
4-5 years ago, when I had a bleeding lesion. I stopped it by taking cod liver
oil internally.
I've recently had red lesions with irregular borders appear on my
back, legs and arms and feet. Some of them turn brown. They often itch
slightly. Maybe I have cancer, maybe I don't.
But the lesions go away completely when I take a tablespoon of cod
liver oil for a couple days. It also makes the itching go away even though I'm
taking it internally. (I tend to be too anabolic. For example, even the
baking soda in toothpaste sometimes makes me feel lousy -- coffee? forget about
it, one cup kills me!!)
When I stop the cod liver oil, the irregular lesions sometimes
return. But then the cod liver oil works again, and they go away.
Do I have cancer? I don't know. But the possibility sure doesn't
scare me. Even if I did and it were to kill me, I know that there are methods
for reducing the pain.

hen I tested my urine with a pregnancy test, it came out positive for
HCGH. So in fact, I did have cancer. With over a dozen large lesions
located from my calves to my upper back, it was a Stage 4 cancer.

And it was nearly 10 years ago now.

In that post, I didn't include the entire protocol. It also included
habeneros peppers and garlic.

And today, hundreds more will find out about it. And tomorrow, and the
day after next, etc.

Stay skeptical when you read testimonials on the internet.

While I very much enjoy hot sauce, hot Chinese, and other spicy delicacies,
I take 100,000 SHU capsaicin capsules that skip the taste buds. However, I
have to be very careful to assure there is a good amount of food in my
stomach prior to taking it or I become very, very uncomfortable.
