Robot Attack + 50 Hours

Just got home from the hospital about about an hour ago. Am feeling great,
considering, with just some small pain in abdomen. Pain around penetration
sites when they are touched. Have hole in side where drain tube was pulled
out. Pulling of drain tube was painful but over in a few seconds.

Doctor said everything went well. This is an awesome procedure. Home 2 days
after major surgery. Wow.

They gave me a relatively small urine bag for walking around. Fills up too
quick, so on th way home, I stopped and got a full litre bag. It also has a
twist-type valve on the bottom, as opposed to pulling off a cap on the other
one. I was sure to lose the cap, probably down the toilet, plus it is awkward.
The bag they gave me had just enough plumbing for mounting on the upper thigh,
wheras the one I bought has enough for mounting on the calf / shin, so I can
just raise my foot up to the toilet seat, open the valve, and never take pants
down. Yeah, its only for a week, but the bag was only $12.95, too. And with
this one I can probably get all the way thru Indiana Jones tomorrow or Saturday
<G>.

Took a couple Tylenol for the small amount of pain that I have. If that doesn't
work, I'll get into the doctor's prescription stuff which will be a lot more
effective, but more dangerous.

Haven't had much of anything to eat all week - liquid diet before the procedure
for a day, liquid diet afer, and Dr. wants me to continue it fhru tomorrow.
Gatoraid, popsicles, de-fizzed soda pops, etc.

Rule #1 is don't get cancer, but if you do get it, get prostate cancer and have
it removed early via the Da Vinci robot.

Great report. I'm 10 days away from my visit with Mr. Da Vinci and your
comments provide some reassurance.
Hadn't thought about the urine bag size. The bottom valve type seems
obvious. Where did you find one?

Glad to provide that. I'm truly amazed at the ease of going thru this - very
little pain. It was kinda painful yesterday - the hospital uses a 1 - 10 scale
of pain, and subjectively, I don't believe I enver got above a 2. The pain was
just annoying, so I asked for some drugs, got 'em, and had absolutely NO pain
then - IOW, the pain was so low it was easy to kill 100%. I felt GREAT with
those drugs.

Anesthesia was fantastic. I got to the OR, the anesthetist said he as going to
start the drug into the IV now, I can't remember if I said OK or not, but in
about 20 seconds the entire world went away. I next became aware of my
surroundings in the recovery room - hours later - and the operation was
history.

I went to the CVS pharmacy and went to their consultation window and asked
about a urinary collection bag. They said they didn't have one but recommended
a local place, I think it was "Homecare America" or something like that which
has all this unusual medical stuff. I think most every decent-sized community
has one.

worry, this is going to be the easiest major surgery you could ever have.

Update on condition. Surgery Tuesday. Today's Friday. I feel pretty good,
there is pain, but not much. I feel like I could do a lot. Well, I'm still
weaker than I thought I was.

Took advantage of perceived good condition, rode 1/2 hour to town, saw Indiana
Jones movie, rode 1/2 hour back. I'm weak. Took a lot out of me - I'm
slightly nauseous. My Dr. still recommeded liquid diet today and there ain't
much in the way of calories in it, so I think that's part of the problem. But
part of the problem is the trauma of getting cut in 6 different places, too.
Not as capable as I though I was.

Will go off liquid only tomorrow, and try not to overdo it. Have chicken
noodle soup stocked up, a lot of it (I love it.) Will see how that goes. I
screw this up I'll probably be throwing up all over the place.

They gave me the big one at the hospital and I went out and bought a small
one. The big one is great for bed time, but I didn't like having it hanging
over the side of the chair when company came. Also, I found the little one
much easier to walk in (treadmill).

I was given a 2.5 liter bag, plus a leg bag, plus back-ups for each of
those units.

I could foresee a very catastrophic fall, entanglement, and inexpert
removal of your catheter on a treadmill. Yeah, hide that tubing. ;-)

Steve talked about the Big Bag.

I had the big bag at home...stayed with it...and carried it with me in a
cloth tote bag.

I wasn't self-concious cuz I had Michael Jordan 'snap pants' and covered
the exposed tube with an old shirt sleeve. :-)

I only did THAT to make OTHERS more comfortable...instead of seeing a
tube with urine in it. :-)
