Hi!
I had that done. For me it was caused by a hormone imbalance; an
overabundance of estrogen in relation to
progesterone. The same issue was
causing ovarian cysts. Am using a hormone coated IUD now. The GYN says the
issue will solve itself when I hit menopause.
Have to admit - I had the option to have a hysterectomy. I declined it
because I'm in my mid forties and like my organs right where they are, thank
you. Am starting to regret it, just because my body is trying to re-assert
the estrogen level from before, meaning that this tactic isn't always
working. If I'd had the hysterectomy, I wouldn't be dealing with the some of
the side issues of my hormones warring back and forth.
As an aside, my Mom's cancer may have started in a fibroid. So having them
removed is a good idea for your friend. It's an extremely rare cancer, fewer
than 1% of all cancers turn out to be this kind. So don't borrow trouble.
But being careful is good.

A friend & co-worker is going in for a biopsy of thickened uterine
lining this afternoon. Since 1999, the thickness has grown from 6mm to
39mm. She only found out about this Thursday as a result of an
ultrasound & the doc wants her in today (maybe just a cancellation).
She has lost over 140 lbs. over the past year & change on Weight
Watchers. I have speculated with her that since hormones - I know
estrogen - is stored in fatty tissue, the weight loss may have
contributed to this.
She also said she has grown fibroid things in the past, so, of course,
we are hoping this is benign.
She is 54 & keeps thinking she's through the change but keeps finding
out otherwise?
Any good links or words of experience?
Thanks,
Fig
