Default Cancer predisposition question

As many of you who follow this NG know, I am a CRC stage 4 patient.
FYI my younger brother got stomach cancer after my own diagnosis and
died shortly afterwards. Today I find out that my other younger
brother has prostate cancer early stages, fortunately). Sheesh! Is
this just a coincidence? Is predisposition limited to only same-type
cancers?

I can't answer that. But my father had epiglottis cancer and then lung
cancer, and I had epiglottis cancer and then lung cancer. The oldest of
my siblings only made it to age 39, so no other data.

It's almost certainly just a coincidence.
There are families with genetic DNA repair problems, and they have an
increased risk of cancers. You three simply have 3 common
cancers..............

Not as I've been told. When I gave the cancer docs my own history: dad
with non-hotchkins lymphoma, maternal uncle with pancreatic cancer,
maternal aunt with lung cancer, maternal aunt with stomach cancer, one
(matrnal)first cousin with breast cancer and another, her brother, first
cousin with a virulent form of lukemia, they told me it was not a
question of 'when' I would get cancer, just 'where' I would get it.

One of the oncologists put it quite succintly when he said that 7 people
in his immediate family had cancer and he didn't have it *yet*.

My experience was similar to yours Janet. I was asked for an extensive
family medical history.
The answer I was told the researchers are still trying to calculate cancer
risk. Some risk could be environmental which a family shares.

Although the genetic counselor doesn't use this in cancer risk prevention, I
know they are tracking patterns for research. I was told the more data they
collect the more they will learn.
