Final Call for Abstracts in Public Engagement
Global Leadership Forum for Cancer Control
September 23-26, 2009, Ottawa, Canada

Cancer is a leading cause of death globally.
It doesn't have to be this way.
We can control cancer.

With existing knowledge, it is possible to prevent at least one-third of the 10 million cases that occur annually.
Where sufficient resources are available, current knowledge allows the early detection and treatment of another one-third
of cases. However, we are not applying what we know. As public mobilization swells, the time is right to create a new
social climate about cancer control: one that engages the public in support of a new global response to cancer.
In an unprecedented collaboration, the Campaign to Control Cancer, the Lance Armstrong Foundation and
the International Union Against Cancer have joined forces to issue a global call to action:

the urgent need to GO PUBLIC.

The 1st Global Leadership Forum for Cancer Control - GO PUBLIC - is an international conference that will share
best practices in public engagement for Cancer Control. If you know something about engaging the public - we need
your ideas and expertise! We're calling on individuals and organizations with proven approaches in public engagement,
whether it be in the field of cancer control or other chronic diseases, to share your knowledge by submitting abstracts
to this international event. Help us to accelerate and move knowledge into action and to explore the important role the
public can play in controlling cancer. For information on submitting an abstract, visit :
